So many people go through life suffering in silence, and instead of burdening their friends with their problems they will turn to substances to cope. Its sad that this was the case with your friend, but I am glad that she is sober again and starting to get back to normal. A little compassion and support from loved ones can go a long way. You seem like a good friend.

Not a close friend, but a friend offering support and guidance which is all you can do as they need to do this for themselves.
