Pixel Posting | Kitty Kitty Kitty... behind the scenes #15
Hey again Hive !
If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ve probably noticed a certain recurring theme in my art – yeah, my cats. They’ve kinda become my niche at this point, and honestly? I’m not mad about it. Drawing them in random situations, little slices of their personalities – it feels personal, like I’m sharing a quiet part of my world with you.
My Creative process!
I’ve been wanting to show more of my process in video form, but here’s the problem: the canvas I work on (usually something like 180x120 pixels) is just tiny. That makes it pretty much impossible to record the process in a quality that doesn’t look like a mess.
Maybe one day I’ll find a good way to do it – I’d love to let you in on how the chaos turns into something clean.
But for now, here’s how it usually goes: I start with a sketch – rough outlines, building the scene and blocking in characters or key elements.
Then comes the pixel lineart. I try to keep it clean, leave room to breathe. After that, I throw in the colors, start adding shadows, light, and play around with filters and layers until it hits the vibe I’m looking for.
Once that’s done, everything goes from Procreate into Pixaki Pro. That’s where the animation happens – rain, cat movement, blinking, the whole mood of the scene comes to life there. It’s where the static picture finally starts breathing.
Static version down below!
Creative blocks?
Yeah, I get them too. Everyone does. But I’ve learned one simple thing: the only real fix is to keep going. Even if it’s just ten minutes of drawing random lines. You’re not wasting time – you’re showing up. And that matters.
Also, don’t sleep on nature. Getting outside, touching grass, walking around with no real plan – it does something good to the brain.
I’ve had some of my best ideas after staring at trees like an idiot.
Last thing – every piece you make, even the ones you kinda hate, is still progress. If nothing else, it teaches you what not to do next time. That’s still growth. And honestly, making stuff you love – or learning to love the process – is one of the best ways to deal with emotions. Good ones, bad ones, whatever’s floating in your chest.
So if you’re someone who creates, or wants to – keep at it. Even when it’s messy. Even when it sucks. Especially then.
That's it for today's post, let me know how you feel and if you got any questions!
