Pausing To Reignite.

Sometimes last year, I started a pastry business with my wife. It was just chinchin but there was a big dream for it because I have always believed that food production is one of those businesses that stand a chance in the future. We wanted to include coconut flakes, peanuts, and a few other things later. The fire was burning pretty well, and I was moving with the boost. But all of a sudden, the fire started burning low when things weren’t going as planned.

The cost of ingredients increased and I didn’t want to compromise on quality, but customers didn’t want to understand. They wanted the same quality and quantity for the same price, which wasn’t possible; it would mean me forfeiting profit. Increasing the price of product wasn’t an option either because I had competitors, especially within my community. A lot of people compromised on quality, but I wasn’t ready to sell to people what I can’t consume.

I told my wife we needed to pause while I figure out how we can make profit, even though it’s not much. She asked if we were quitting, and I said no, it’s a break we must take to make progress. While the production was paused, a few people kept asking for the product. My wife always said we must lose these few, but their numbers were too small to keep the business running. What I needed was a market that appreciates our quality and it took me a while to discover the right market, but the break was worth it, judging by our sales in the past few weeks.

While reflecting on the difference between then and now, I realized that sometimes pausing to recharge on any journey isn’t completely a bad idea. It’s an opportunity for reflection and reassessment before progressing.

I know a lot of people would disagree with the idea of pausing because they misunderstand the essence of it. I was once like that; pausing meant laziness or quitting, and I always pushed myself until I burned out. Right now, I feel like there are so many things I wouldn’t have quit if I had taken time to pause and reassess instead of pushing myself forward blindly, driven by competition or aspiration without checking if the applied strategy was truly working for me.

From the recent improvement, I can confidently say that I have gained new perspective and clarity, which is paying off already. I feel double the flame, I feel more motivated to keep going just because I took a pause. There is a huge possibility that I could have experienced burnout like so many did if I hadn’t taken the pause.

Sometimes, people quit after pausing, and it still doesn’t mean that to pause is bad. What if, during the pause, they realize that they could have done better with something else and decided to direct their resources into something more meaningful and rewarding? That's what pausing is capable of doing, helping you see what you missing to make the right decision.

For me, its a fact that pausing or quitting isn’t always for the worse course; it can be inspired by positive reasons.

I would love to know your thoughts about the idea of pausing to reflect or reevaluate yourself. Have you taken a pause recently? What was it about, and how did it turn out? I would love to learn from your experience.

Let’s use the human body as an example. When the human body is stressed beyond normal, do you know what the brain does? It shuts down most parts of the body so it can get more energy to keep it functioning. This is one reason people just fall unconscious sometimes.

Well, that’s roughly an example that points to us the need for resting. Sometimes we try to act all strong and determined and ignore the signs that says stop and think and we get burned and lose almost everything we have worked for.

I’m glad you realized you needed a break to sort out things on how to meet the right consumers and make better profits. A pause is essential for growth.

Fun fact: A child grows faster when they sleep a lot. Your body also heals faster too when you rest more in cases of injuries.

The body is a good example of how important rest is to every human. Working non-stop isn't the best of ways to chase success or dreams. There are times we need to pause, look back at mistakes and forge a different path for the journey ahead.

Very important. If you don’t find the time to pause your body will help you do that and you won’t be ready for it, lol.

It's good to pause at intervals and monitor growth or ways of improvement, especially when things don't go as planned.

I remember when I started a production business without proper research. I had to pause and weighed the options, I realized I had made a wrong decision because a lot is involved in keeping the business running and I wasn't ready for that.

In business, that pause is necessary but it doesn't have to be stopping completely like we did. I remember when I was working with a food production company, the last two days of the month are basically for review and assessment which helps us perform better in the coming month.

That's a good one. The food company is ready to make adjustments for growth. Most businesses don't make out time for that extra activity. They would rather use that time for more production.

Yes. I recently took some time off from my entire projects. Just to sit and think and perhaps look at things from a different angle.

That's how the flame was borne. Not out of a necessity to grab profits, but from a real need in our ecosystem for people that process their thoughts differently.

When I write -- it gives me clarity. I spot others that need this too.

And I invite them to the Flame.

There are millions of people like this -- so we start a revolution.

We are borne not out of greed, but out of co-existence! Out of shared co-operation.

We gain new insights and perspectives about everything when we pause to reflect. That has always been one of my routines because I realized that the majority of humans just move at world speed. Missing out on so many differences they could have made with just those pauses.

Sometimes we overlook the importance of those pause we experience either intentionally or not. Just imagine writing a sentence without full stops, commas and the likes, it would only make everything look messy and it even get worst as you continue writing and that’s almost similar to the need for a pause.

It’s a good thing you saw a need to pause and you didn’t push yourself further to please people or reduce the quality of your products. These pauses makes the whole experience even worth telling.

I love the illustration about writing... Pauses are important to help us reaccess whatever it is we are doing and I am glad we didn't compromise on quality.

Taking a pause can really help reset, refocus and help see things clearer and come back stronger. Sometimes it's the best decision we can make for ourselves.

I think pausing is good because I also did same with my business, I just couldn't afford it anymore. I was running at a loss on the products I made . Everyone complimented the taste but didn't want to pay extra . I had to pause to think of a safe route for both myself and the customers.

Customers are very funny, they want the same quality knowing very well that the cost of things aren't stagnant. I know you will figure something out soon, cheers.
