Ending The Waste Stigmatization...
The word "waste" turned out to be a stigma on used items and unfortunately, a lot of humans have been brainwashed by this grammar. We don’t want to have anything to do with waste, whereas there are so many things that can emerge from our waste bin if only we adopt and practice recycling.
The importance of recycling items into new or usable products, reducing waste while conserving natural resources, can’t be quantified in today’s world where we generate tons of waste while piling pressure on the ecosystem for more natural resources instead of reusing what’s available. Food, paper, plastic, and many other items are left to perish, causing not just pollution but great harm to the ecosystem.
Unfortunately, our improper management of waste has led to global warming, climate change, pollution, natural disasters, and many other issues we are struggling with today. Despite all of these, a larger percentage of the world still don’t see the reason for recycling items that aren't serving their initial purpose anymore.
Several times, I have thought about the fact that what if we don’t have to always recycle? It doesn’t mean we won’t recycle at all, but there won’t be this pressure to do so because we’ve practiced prevention.
There is a popular saying that prevention is better than cure which is true but we only attach this saying to health related matters which shouldn't be so. For waste, we can actually prevent ourselves from generating waste instead of developing headache on how to manage our waste.
I strongly believe that cumulating waste can be prevented, and that’s what I do now instead of seeking ways of recycling, because if we are being honest, a time will come when individually, we will run out of recycling ideas.
Let’s take for instance: I buy a lot of plastic bottle water, and I started converting those plastics into stuff at home. A time will come when I wouldn’t have things to use those plastics for. Giving it out is another way to make good use of the plastic, but what about not purchasing those plastic bottle waters in the first place?
Why not have a water bottle that I can take around in my bag? That would prevent me from generating more waste instead of finding means of recycling.
A few months ago, I went to the popular GB store to get some stuff, and surprisingly, they now sell their bags, just like Bokku store does. I have been looking forward to that and even suggested it sometime ago because their waste bags were everywhere in my area.
I immediately bought the small and big bags because sometimes I go there for just bread, which the small bag can handle, and the big one when I want to buy more. When it has to do with shopping for food items, I have a specific bag and wouldn’t have to buy bags every time I go to the market.
Imagine buying bags every time you go to the market—you will definitely run out of ideas of what to do with those bags, and they will somehow contribute to the waste within the environment.
Food items aren’t excluded. I actually don’t cook more than I need and even prefer not eating enough than having excess. There are times when there will definitely be leftovers; I preserve them properly and feed my birds these leftovers.
I also enjoyed making crafts out of some items that I can’t prevent their waste. I think of something that would make these items valuable and just do it either for myself or someone else.
It makes me happy seeing people embrace recycling; it will automatically reduce waste, which means a clean environment. I see the hard work of the government to keep the roads clean, and our support will definitely go a long way in actually keeping things clean for real.
