Being curious is a feeling we were all born with, every individual develops it naturally just like every other feeling and at a point in life we start exhibiting it. Curiosity is a kind of feeling that wants to make us dig deep into things because of the why surrounding them. It drives us to research and these things help us grow intellectually depending on the things we are curious about.
Curiosity started the same way for many male children, we wanted to know what speaks inside a radio, what makes a television display things and many others. It started like that for me too and even though it got me into trouble a few times, I didn't regret finding answers.
I got punished for doing things out of curiosity and somehow, I didn't see the need to stop. A lot of parents didn't understand the feeling then because when they were younger, the presence of technology in underdeveloped countries was very little and there weren't a lot of things that fascinated them unlike when we were younger. My experience as a kid is one of the things that will definitely help my kids find answers to things they are curious about.
They will be the lead researcher, my duty is to provide them with the things they need and guide them. Stopping them is not a good idea especially when their curiosity won't bring any form of harm to them, the good thing about finding answers is that it has helped many kids to discover their passion in life.
The world is what it is today because of some people's curiosity, they were curious about things that led them to dedicate their lives to just one thing until they had a breakthrough with it. Smartphones, aeroplanes, tractors, skyscrapers, elevators and every other thing we are enjoying today started as someone's curiosity. If they didn't find answers, we wouldn't be enjoying many of the things we are today.
While growing up, the majority of my curiosity had to do with electronics. I love to loose and assemble them, that's one thing I don't get tired of doing. My curiosity made me develop a passion for electronics but I didn't see myself doing anything huge with it, I just loved it.
My mom was cool with me experimenting on damaged things but once I lay my hands on things that are not bad, it doesn't end well. Despite the restrictions I had, I was able to learn a few things.
There was a particular time I was curious about what merging currents would look like, the idea was to get high voltage. The opportunity came one night when our changeover switch got damaged and it didn't end well, my heart skipped when our I pass my neighbor generator made this loud sound before going off.
Immediately it happened, I knew there was trouble but on getting there, the generator was intact. I tried starting it but it won't on so I just pretended that I didn't know what was wrong and because there was electricity, mom didn't ask what happened.
I met an electrician and asked him. He made me understand that two different sources of current can only work today when their voltage is the same and the small generator went off because the volt is lower. I explained what I did and he told me that I could have damaged our electronics.
The experience taught me to always ask questions before trying things out and the only thing that would make me try something is when I don't get answers. It wasn't the smartphone era so getting information was swift but now, things are different. We can dig out any information from the comfort of my room and it helps a lot.
You are right about kids wanting to know what talks in a radio or how the tv display images and many times I dismantle our tv even when it was not bad and glory be to God I didn't damage it out of curiosity and other same curiosity made me become a phone engineer back then..... It was always fun trying to learn new then practically as kids but when the consequences comes, we will swesr with out life not to do it again.... Your article is valid, i like it
You are right and despite being curious about something positive, the result can be disastrous.
Things are different now anyway because before being curious could lead to trouble now, the person must have more than he or she should do.
That's right
Yes, in earlier times, we were curious to know about everything because that time was not for smart phones, so we were very curious to know about these things.
A lot of our CURIOSITY wouldn't have led to disaster if we had the information at the tip of our hands... Life is better today, we can get all this information for free anywhere anytime as long as we have an internet connection.
To be honest, now you can see everything on the internet
Your curiosity would have cost your parents huge expenses but it's good it didn't. We are in the era where we have gadgets that has got some answers to our questions even though we want to see it, we can also research for the repercussions in carrying out our experiments.
Yeah, a lot could have gone wrong that day but I guess I was lucky and the generator was very small so it didn't stand a chance against the electricity that came from the transformer.
Lucky you! 🙂
Georgeeeeee, see how you would have damaged your parents electronics 😂, you need cane oo oo 😂 but that was a good one anyway. I love how curious you are trying to assemble all that with ideas as a kid..that's impressive even though you may end up spoiling things. Asking questions is the goal in many cases
Honestly, I was really scared and things could have gone bad that day if my curiosity had led to destroying the small home appliances we have.
I learned something and was happy about that.
This is really hilarious! What if you had done something weird and the result leads to some explosion cause this is what my curiosity is doing right now hehe. And that's fair enough because it helped you understand how you would fix another electrical appliances better!
If the damage that day was more than that, I can bet that I wouldn't sleep in that house that night because my mom will definitely know that everything was my handwork.
Yeah, I gained new knowledge which made me happy. It took time before we fixed the generator but it worked.
You are quiet right when you mentioned that it was out of curiosity that many great things were being invented. We are all enjoying electricity because somebody was so curious to about magnetic waves
That's right, if those people curios... The world will never change from what it was, we can say curiosity brought development to the world.
If we want to learn something we need curiosity to know about it. Without curiosity, it's hard for anyone to learn new things if there is no curiosity. it seems you were interested in electricity from your childhood time.
