Planting peas instead of overthinking [EN/FR]

Yesterday was Friday. And I felt it because I was less productive. More scattered. I switched from one project to another all day without really finishing a single one. I had the feeling of being busy… but not really efficient.
If I take a bit of distance, I still finished a few small interesting things. But not what I had planned to finish. That’s the most frustrating part.
Between two work sessions, I went outside to create furrows and sow my peas. It had been a little more than two days that they were soaking in water. I was afraid they would end up rotting if I waited any longer.
Many had already germinated by the way.
The real question was staking. Should I stake them or not. And there, it wasn’t just a technical question. It was a question of mental load. Finding what to do it with. Looking in the garden if I had what was needed. Going to buy string if necessary. Setting up the stakes. Then only after that, sowing.
By searching a bit, I came across someone who did not stake his dwarf peas. Mine are also dwarf peas. So I decided to follow that advice.
The idea is to plant very close together. About 20 cm between the rows. The plants support each other. The only real risk is a big storm that would knock everything down.
But in reality, in mass agriculture, nobody bothers staking peas. They plant dense. It grows. I told myself that I could take inspiration from that.
So, I kept it simple. Furrows. Peas spaced about 1 cm in the row. Which makes… really a lot of peas.
I had a few left. I sowed them in a corner of the vegetable garden that I had not planned to use. A bit in test mode. We will see what it gives.
In any case, it’s done. Little by little, the vegetable garden is moving forward. Every year, it takes up a big space in my head.
I also prepared a bit the right side of the vegetable garden, the one where we will put tomatoes this spring.
Even if the work day was chaotic, at least the vegetable garden, it, is moving forward.

Hier c’était vendredi. Et je l’ai senti passer car j'étais moins productif. Plus dispersé. J’ai switché d’un projet à l’autre toute la journée sans vraiment en finir un seul. J'avais la sensation d’être occupé… mais pas vraiment efficace.
Si je prends un peu de recul, j’ai quand même terminé quelques petites choses intéressantes. Mais pas ce que j’avais prévu de terminer. C’est ça le plus frustrant.
Entre deux sessions de travail, je suis allé dehors pour créer des sillons et semer mes petits pois. Ça faisait un peu plus de deux jours qu’ils trempaient dans l’eau. J’avais peur qu’ils finissent par pourrir si j’attendais encore.
Beaucoup avaient déjà germé d’ailleurs.
La vraie question, c’était le tuteurage. Est-ce que je devais les tuteurer ou pas. Et là, ce n’était pas juste une question technique. C’était une question de charge mentale. Trouver avec quoi le faire. Chercher dans le jardin si j’avais ce qu’il fallait. Aller acheter de la ficelle si besoin. Installer les tuteurs. Puis seulement après, semer.
En cherchant un peu, je suis tombé sur quelqu’un qui ne tuteurait pas ses pois nains. Les miens sont aussi des pois nains. Alors j’ai décidé de suivre ce conseil.
L’idée, c’est de planter très serré. Environ 20 cm entre les rangs. Les plants se soutiennent entre eux. Le seul vrai risque, c’est une grosse tempête qui coucherait tout.
Mais en réalité, dans l’agriculture de masse, personne ne s’embête à tuteurer des pois. Ils plantent dense. Ça pousse. Je me suis dit que je pouvais m’inspirer de ça.
Du coup, j’ai fait simple. Des sillons. Des pois espacés d’environ 1 cm dans le rang. Ce qui fait… vraiment beaucoup de pois.
Il m’en restait un peu. Je les ai semés dans un coin du potager que je n’avais pas prévu d’utiliser. Un peu en mode test. On verra bien ce que ça donne.
En tout cas, c’est fait. Petit à petit, le potager avance. Chaque année, ça occupe une grosse place dans ma tête.
J’ai aussi préparé un peu la partie droite du potager, celle où on mettra les tomates ce printemps.
Même si la journée de travail était chaotique, au moins le potager, lui, avance.
