My hubs coaches a youth small bore rifle team, on weekends they have matches, and yesterday I spent most of the day with them in an underground shooting range watching them compete. They are amazing athletes!
I so agree on all counts! Interest and participation in shooting sports, especially youth shooting sports, has exploded (heh) all over the country in the past few years. On Friday nights from September through April the hubs has a $5 youth marksmanship (10 and up) program at our local rifle range, the range provides the rifles, instruction, safety briefing, and ammo, and the kids get to compete in the NRA marksmanship program. He's had 168 kids participate so far this year:)
And that's not even with me getting started about what's going on in the skeet and trap world! (My son competes and the hubs coaches and competes in that too!)
They use open iron sights, but they can look through the spotting scope (it's on the right of her) at their targets when they are not shooting at them to check their grouping and such.
I love this! More kids need to train! We need more guns on Hive! LOL.
