THEINSPIRATION THE RECREATION IV: THE UNDER BUST CORSET.

Hello wonderful peoples of Needleworkmonday, it’s been a minute. Today I am glad to share with you yet again another recreation episode. In line with my series, the inspiration the recreation, I will be sharing with you how I recreated this under bust corset.

For those who happen to just be coming across my episode, i bid you a warm welcome to episodes iv which means, this is my fourth attempt on recreating a dress and so far, it has been quite a blast.

I learn new things every time not just about sewing but more about my personal preference when it comes to styling. Anyways, a quick recap shall we;

1. Recreating an A cut dress with net sleeves. Challenges I encounter, achieving the
   exaggerated hips.
2. Recreating; A Val dress. Challenges Iencountered, achieving a snatched waist.
3. Recreating a short bulbul dress. Nochallenges.
4. And now: The under bust corset

So far, I think I am proud of what I have achieved. Weeks ago I wouldn’t believe I could recreate any style no matter how hard I try. But now I think the reason I
started this episodes has not been defeated.

In making this dress all you need are;
· six yards of Ankara print fabric
· A pattern paper
· Gum stay of about half a yard
· A half yard of any fabric of your
choice (I used a dull face satin)
· Half inch Elastic for the sleeves
· Matching thread
· Lining
· Crinoline
· And of cause your sewing and measurement tools.

Also, to create this dress, here is the basic measurement I used;
Shoulder - 15
Bust - 34
Under bust -30
Waist - 28
Nipple to
nipple - 6
Half-length- 15
Full length - 46

In makingthis dress I started by drafting my half-length on a pattern paper and I must say this style turned out to be easier than I thought.

I wished I knew it earlier, how simple life could have been. I think this is the simplest corset anyone would ever have to make. It doesn’t require boning channels, boning or even a complex dart actually, it requires no dart.
I started by drafting out my front part with a dart on a pattern paper. I went down from my neck depth by 8inches. From my chest line, I came down by 1.5 inches and made a curve. Whiles cutting, I made sure to observe my neck line and my curve so I don’t cut them out but cut along the lines.

After separating the up part, the down part will serve as the corset.

All I did nextis to close the dart and transferred it to my fabric.
Note that for the down part I used gum stay on the fabric and on the lining. As for theback, it just a regular cutting with dart.

After I was done with the up part, I went ahead to minus 15 inches from my full length and cut the full circle and attached it to my half-length. I used my crinoline for the down part of the flare to achieve the twirling effect and added my zipper last.

Problems i encountered whiles making this dress
The length; I struggled with the half-length and the full length. I struggled with thehalf-length because I couldn’t decide if the dress will look finer on my lower
waist or upper waist so I kept cutting the half-length to be shorter.

The fulllength on the other hand wasn’t as long as I would have wanted so I ended up making it a three quarter dress instead of a full dress that would flow to the ground.
