Entre idiomas y afectos: una dulce sorpresa por el Día del Profesor [ESP/ENG]

La semana pasada se celebró el Día del Profesor en Brasil, y aunque aquí me dedico principalmente a la investigación en el área de las ciencias ambientales, también trabajo un par de horas a la semana en una academia de idiomas, la cual se ha vuelto un lugar de donde me siento parte. No esperaba que esas pocas horas se transformaran en un momento tan especial.
Al llegar, me recibieron con una torta, café y una linda galleta decorada, pero lo mejor vino después: una sorpresa llena de mensajes de mis alumnos y colegas, personas que con el tiempo se han vuelto importantes para mí.
Escuchar sus voces, algunas en portugués, otras en español, fue profundamente emotivo. Cada palabra me recordó por qué amo tanto esta profesión.
Aunque en Venezuela el Día del Educador y del Profesor Universitario se celebra en otras fechas, este gesto me llenó de gratitud. Porque sin importar el lugar, ser docente es parte esencial de mi identidad, una vocación que me acompaña siempre, esté donde esté.

Last week was Teacher’s Day in Brazil, and although my main focus here is on environmental science research, I also teach a few hours a week at a language academy—a place that has truly come to feel like home. I never imagined that those few hours would lead to such a special moment.
When I arrived, I was greeted with cake, coffee, and a beautifully decorated cookie, but the best part came afterward: a surprise filled with messages from my students and colleagues. These people have become very meaningful to me over time.
Hearing their voices—some in Portuguese, others in Spanish—was deeply moving. Every word reminded me why I love this profession so much.
Although in Venezuela, Teacher’s Day and University Professor’s Day are celebrated on different dates, this gesture filled me with gratitude. Because no matter where I am, being a teacher is an essential part of who I am—a vocation that always travels with me.
