Threating Business Like a Game of War

Let me say it once that if you are expecting success to fall on your laps, then you are wrong. Success is not given, it is taken because nobody will bring it to your doorstep and nobody wants to pass the baton to someone else. It is lonely at the top and people at the top like it that way. While business is a game, it is war and you need to treat it as such and anything outside that you have failed before you started.

Remember I mentioned that business is a game and if you want to win you need to know how to play the game better than anyone else. You need to know to identify your competitor in business because while you are about to start a business, someone out there somewhere is also fighting for the same market share, the same customers, and the same preferential support you are expecting. Because they want the same success as you it is a priority that you know your competitors very well.

You do not need to get obsessed about them, you just need to know them, know their weaknesses, and use it to your advantage. Instead of staying on office drama, and internal politics, the war is outside while the house need to be cool, collected, and strategic. When you are fighting internal war, getting external success would be a little difficult. Do not reinvent the wheel, create a better one so you can grow in business.

In all that you do never cling to past success, past achievements, and past strategy . Adapt to a world that is ever changing because the market is living since it is living beings that control it. Be willing to adapt to trends, technologies and customer demands when they arise. The inability to adapt in business is death. Be the one who leverage new technology, be the one who see trends, be the first to do things in your industry but do it with precision.

In business, one thing is constant, you will be pressured but how you handle the pressure matters a lot. You need to be calm and be able to make straight and calculative decision when you are pressured. Be calm, be able to access the situation and since you are calm, you will do it with clarity, and you will see the opportunity others missed while you move with confidence. Reacting emotionally is not a good move in business, strategy is what the game requires and strategy is what wins.

In all you do, never say you will do it later because success doesn't wait for anyone. You need to create a sense of urgency in all that you do, because if you are not operating with urgency, people are lining up to steal your spot and in business, overtaking is allowed. I do not say rush, I say have a drive and purpose that will make you do it now and not later.

If you are looking for a business suggestion or haring an opinion and everyone is nodding in accordance to you, then there is a problem because you are all thinking alike in what is referred to as group think. You need independent thinkers for you and not yes men. If you needed yes men in your meetings, you would have bought a repeating yes toy. You need diverse opinion, fresh perspective and you an only get the best opinion via constructive debate and not endless arguments.

If you are going into business, never be a jack of all trade because it will lead to mediocrity, instead prioritize your core competencies and focus on those with laser precision. Never spread yourself in areas you do not excel because they will thin you out with no results. If it is shining and doesn't align with your core competencies, then zero it out. Never chase every shining object because not all that glitters is gold.
