Repotting and renovation for my Man"s love plant [ENG-SPA]

Hello hivers! I have a few plants on my balcony, and some of them are already asking for repotting, so yesterday I started on this task. The first one to get a change will be my Tradescantia pallida, also known here as Man"s love. This plant actually belonged to my sister, @sofathana. A friend gave it to her, but my sister isn't the type of person who pays much attention to plants 😬 hahaha, so I'm the one who ended up taking care of her 🙄🤷🏻‍♀️. In fact, my sister had her in a small pot, and I repotted it into a larger one. However, it had been there for a few years, and some of the roots were already growing out the bottom, so it was time to transplant her to a more suitable spot.

Saludos hivers. Tengo unas cuantas plantas en mi balcón y algunas de ellas ya me están pidiendo cambio de maceta así que ayer empecé con esta labor, y la primera que recibirá este cambio será mi purpurina (Tradescantia pallida), conocida aquí también como Amor de hombre. Esta planta en realidad era de mi hermana, @sofathana, una amiga de ella se la regaló, pero mi hermana no es el tipo de persona que esté muy pendiente de las plantas 😬jajaja, así que la que terminó cuidándola soy yo 🙄🤷🏻‍♀️. De hecho mi hermana la tenía en una pequeña maceta y yo la cambié a una mas grande, sin embargo, ya tenía unos cuantos años ahí y parte de las raíces ya se estaban saliendo por debajo así que llegó la hora de transplantarla a un lugar mas cómodo.

This plant propagates quickly and grows sideways with shoots that emerge and remain attached. When I took her out of the pot, I realized that there were many old roots and stems that had already fulfilled their purpose and were only occupying space and preventing the growth of new stems.

Esta planta es de rápida propagación y va creciendo hacia los lados con brotes que van surgiendo y permanecen pegados, cuando la saqué de la maceta me dí cuenta que había muchas raíces y tallos viejos que ya habían cumplido su misión y lo único que estaban haciendo era ocupar el espacio y evitando el crecimiento de nuevos tallos.

I picked up the plant and, with a knife, carefully began to loosen the soil, separating the stems and leaving only the active plants. While I was doing that, Guillermina, my sister's cat, arrived. She loves plants, especially eating the leaves 😂🤦🏻‍♀️, although in this case, the Man"s love leaves didn't interest her at all, hehehe. But she did like to sit and watch the gardening 🌱.

Agarré la planta y con un cuchillo empecé cuidadosamente a despegar la tierra para ir separando los tallos y dejar solamente las plantas que están activas. Mientras estaba haciendo eso llegó Guillermina, la gata de mi hermana, a la cual le encantan las plantas, sobretodo para comerse las hojas 😂🤦🏻‍♀️, aunque en este caso, las hojas de la purpurina no le llama para nada la atención jejeje, pero sí le gusta sentarse a observar las labores de jardinería 🌱.

When I finished separating all the soil and plants, I was surprised to see that most of the pot was occupied by dead roots and stems; perhaps that's why the Man"s love hadn't grown in a while. She really needed this change and renewal.

Cuando terminé de separar toda la tierra y las plantas, me sorprendió ver que la mayor parte de la maceta estaba ocupada con raíces y tallos muertos, quizás por eso la purpurina tenía tiempo sin crecer, de verdad que necesitaba este cambio y esta renovación.

The new pot was a five-liter bottle which I cut in half. It's much more spacious and deeper, although in the case of the Man's love plant, her roots are relatively short, but it will still help her have more space downwards and the water won't remain in contact with the roots for too long. This is very important because this plant doesn't require much watering since her roots rot, and I certainly noticed this when I took her out of the old pot, being so cramped, the water remained in contact with the roots for a long time, and that's not good.

La nueva maceta era una botella de cinco litros la cual corté por la mitad, es mucho mas espaciosa y profunda, aunque en el caso de la purpurina, sus raíces son relativamente cortas, pero igual la ayudará a tener mas espacio hacia abajo y el agua no permanecerá mucho tiempo en contacto con las raíces, algo muy importante porque esta planta no requiere mucho riego ya que sus raíces se pudren, y ciertamente es algo que noté cuando la saqué de la vieja maceta, al estar tan apretada el agua permanecía mucho tiempo en contacto con las raíces y eso no es bueno.

After thoroughly cleaning the soil where the Man"s love was, I began to pour her into the new pot. I also added coffee grounds and eggshells that had been previously crushed in a mortar, I mixed everything very well so that it was distributed throughout the pot. I always keep these two items because I use them as fertilizer for the plants.

Después de haber limpiado bien la tierra donde estaba la purpurina, empecé a echarla en la nueva maceta, también agregué restos de café y cáscaras de huevos previamente trituradas en un mortero, mezclé todo muy bien para que se distribuyera por toda la maceta. Siempre guardo estos dos elementos porque los uso como abono para las plantas.

Coffee grounds act as a natural pesticide against some pests and also provide nutrients such as potassium, phosphorus, and nitrogen / Los restos de café actúan como un pesticida natural contra algunas plagas y también aportan nutrientes como potasio, fósforo y nitrógeno

Some seedlings still had dead stems, so I carefully separated them before planting the seedlings.

And so the glitter plant looks in her new pot. I hope this change helps her grow and bloom again. The stems of this plant hang down as they grow. It's a low-maintenance plant and likes the sun, so it's perfect for people who want a plant but aren't very good gardeners, hahaha, like my sister 🙈😂.

Y así quedó la purpurina en su nueva maceta, espero que este cambio la ayude a crecer y a florecer nuevamente, los tallos de esta planta quedan colgados a medida que van creciendo, es una planta de bajo mantenimiento y le gusta el sol así que es perfecta para las personas que quieren tener una planta pero que no son muy buenos jardineros jajaja, como mi hermana 🙈😂.
