Festival del Tatuaje, una cita con la piel como lienzo / Tattoo Festival, a date with the skin as a canvas

Saludos hivers. Los tatuajes siempre me han llamado la atención y desde hace tiempo quiero hacerme uno, pero nunca me decido jajaja 🤷🏻‍♀️, así que mientras eso sucede, ¿qué les parece si los invito a disfrutar de un festival de tatuajes? Acompáñenme a apreciar del arte de dibujar con tinta sobre la piel ✒️.

Hello hivers. Tattoos have always caught my attention, and I've been wanting to get one for a while, but I never decide, haha 🤷🏻‍♀️. So, until then, how about I invite you all to a tattoo festival? Join me and appreciate the art of drawing with ink on skin ✒️.

Es la tercera vez que asisto a un evento de este tipo y la segunda aquí en La Victoria, la primera vez que pude ir a uno fue en Caracas, la capital y era un mega evento con reconocidos tatuadores venezolanos y de países como Estados Unidos, Italia, Argentina, Inglaterra, etc. En estas exposiciones los visitantes tienen la oportunidad de ver a los artistas tatuar en vivo y también, si así lo desean, hacerse un tatuaje con el tatuador de su preferencia.

This is the third time I've attended an event of this type and the second time here in La Victoria. The first time I was able to go to one was in Caracas, the capital, and it was a mega event with renowned Venezuelan tattoo artists and those from countries like the United States, Italy, Argentina, England, etc. At these exhibitions, visitors have the opportunity to see the artists tattoo live and also, if they wish, get a tattoo with the tattoo artist that they want.

Para este tipo de eventos muchos tatuadores buscan voluntarios que estén interesados en tatuarse, y así ellos pueden exponer su arte al público. De hecho, en esta convención ví a varias personas que estuvieron tatuándose en la exposición del año pasado, a veces son amigos de los artistas que ofrecen su piel a cambio de un tatuaje, de verdad que no pregunté si realmente es así o si les pagan.

For these types of events, many tattoo artists look for volunteers interested in getting tattooed, so they can showcase their art to the public. In fact, at this exhibition, I saw several people who were getting tattoos at last year's convention. Sometimes they're friends of the artists who offer their skin in exchange for a tattoo. I honestly didn't ask if this is really the case or if they're paid.

Las tintas 🎨. Actualmente hay una gran variedad de tintas especiales para tatuajes en el mercado, incluso veganas / Inks 🎨. There are currently a wide variety of specialty tattoo inks on the market, even vegan ones

Este evento, llamado "Tattoo Festival Convention", empezó a las 10 de la mañana y se llevó a cabo en los espacios del Centro Comercial Tiquire, ubicado al final de La Victoria, en la carretera hacia El Consejo. En el mismo, participaron 32 tatuadores de la región central del país. Fuí con mi hermana, a ella no le llaman mucho la atención los tatuajes así que solamente dió una vuelta por la exposición y después se fue a pasear por el centro comercial jajaja.

This event, called the "Tattoo Festival Convention," started at 10 a.m. and took place in the Tiquire Shopping Center, located at the end of La Victoria, on the road to El Consejo. Thirty-two tattoo artists from the central region of the country participated. I went with my sister; she's not that into tattoos, so she just walked around the exhibition and then went for a walk in the mall hahaha.

Para ser un artista tatuador no solamente es importante tener ciertas habilidades artísticas y profesionales, sino que también se debe contar con equipos, materiales y tintas de calidad que garanticen un tatuaje bien hecho y hermoso, y un cliente feliz. Dedicarse a este arte requiere de una buena inversión ya que a excepción de la máquina, casi todos los elementos que se utilizan para tatuar, empezando por las agujas, son estrictamente de un solo uso y jamás deben ser reutilizados.

To be a tattoo artist, it's not only important to have certain artistic and professional skills, but also to have quality equipment, materials, and inks that guarantee a well-done, beautiful tattoo and a happy client. Dedicating yourself to this art requires a significant investment, since with the exception of the machine, almost all the elements used in tattooing, starting with the needles, are strictly single-use and should never be reused.

En la convención de este año ví mas tatuajes en formato blanco y negro y monocromático, no se si es porque son más populares entre la gente o si hay algún otro motivo, personalmente me gustan más los tatuajes coloridos. En cuanto a los diseños, había bastante variedad de temáticas, calaveras, personajes de cómics, flores, dragones, etc.

At this year's convention, I saw more black and white and monochrome tattoos. I don't know if it's because they're more popular or if there's some other reason, but I personally prefer colorful tattoos. As for the designs, there was a wide variety of themes, including skulls, comic book characters, flowers, dragons, and more.

Hacerse un tatuaje implica pasar un buen rato sentado, acostado o en alguna posición incómoda, y por supuesto, soportar cierto nivel de dolor que dependerá del lugar en el que se hará el tatuaje, el tamaño del diseño, la mano del tatuador y el umbral del dolor particular de cada persona. Muchas veces se hacen pausas, ya sea porque el tatuaje es muy grande, o también porque la persona que está siendo tatuada necesita descansar un poquito del dolor 🥴😬 jajaja, incluso hay tatuajes que requieren de más de una sesión, ya sea porque son muy grandes y tienen muchos detalles o porque la persona no aguanta mas el dolor 🥴.

Getting a tattoo involves spending a good amount of time sitting, lying down, or in some uncomfortable position, and of course, enduring a certain level of pain that will depend on where the tattoo will be done, the size of the design, the tattoo artist's hand, and each person's particular pain threshold. Many times breaks are taken, either because the tattoo is very large, or also because the person being tattooed needs a little rest from the pain 🥴😬 hahaha, there are even tattoos that require more than one session, either because they are very large and have a lot of detail or because the person can't stand the pain anymore 🥴.

En el evento había animación, música y también una rifa donde los premios eran tatuajes. Me iban a entregar un número para participar en la rifa pero no quise porque no me sentía preparada para hacerme un tatuaje ese día jajaja 🙈. Creo que uno debe pensar muy bien qué diseño se quiere tatuar, en qué parte del cuerpo y con cuál artista tatuador 🤷🏻‍♀️, es algo que llevaremos por siempre en nuestra piel así que hay planificarlo bien 😁.

At the event there was entertainment, music, and also a raffle where the prizes were tattoos. They were going to give me a number to enter the raffle, but I didn't want to because I didn't feel ready to get a tattoo that day, haha 🙈. I think you have to think very carefully about what design you want to get tattooed, on what part of your body, and with which tattoo artist 🤷🏻‍♀️. It's something we'll carry on our skin forever, so you have to plan it well 😁.

Dragon ball sin duda es un personaje muy popular en el mundo del tatuaje / Dragon Ball is undoubtedly a very popular character in the world of tattoos

Antes los tatuajes eran algo más común entre cierta parte de la población como los rockeros y los patineteros (skaters), y por lo general en los hombres, pero desde hace mas o menos unos diez años, los tatuajes se han vuelto bastante populares en Venezuela y ahora cualquier persona tiene uno, hombres, mujeres, adolescentes y viejos también jajaja.

Years ago, tattoos were more common among a certain segment of the population, such as rockers and skaters, and generally among men, but for about ten years now, tattoos have become quite popular in Venezuela, and now everyone has one: men, women, teenagers, and even old people hahaha.

A medida que iban pasando las horas, llegaba más gente al centro comercial y se acercaban a la exposición, la cual era de acceso gratuito. El evento tenía varios patrocinadores que se encargaron de atender a los tatuadores y darles su respectivo café y también el almuerzo.

As the hours passed, more people arrived at the mall and approached the exhibition, which was free to enter. The event had several sponsors who were in charge of serving the tattoo artists and providing them with coffee and lunch.

Siempre me ha gustado preguntarle a las personas que tienen tatuajes por el significado de ellos y por qué se los hicieron, hubiese sido muy interesante hacerle esta pregunta a cada una de las personas que estaban sentadas ahí recibiendo la tinta en sus pieles pero no lo hice 😕🤷🏻‍♀️. Igual se por experiencia propia con amigos y conocidos que mucha gente tiene tatuajes sin ningún significado mayor e incluso quisieran deshacerse de varios de ellos jajaja, tanto por habérselos hecho siendo muy jóvenes y ya no les gustan, como porque están muy feos, deformes y decolorados, y también porque quieren eliminar cosas de su pasado que ya no significan nada para ellos.

I’ve always liked asking people who have tattoos about their meaning and why they got them, it would have been very interesting to ask each of the people who were sitting there receiving the ink on their skin this question but I didn’t do it 😕🤷🏻‍♀️. I also know from my own experience with friends and acquaintances that many people have tattoos without any greater meaning and would even like to get rid of several of them hahaha, both because they got them when they were very young and they don’t like them anymore, or because they are very ugly, deformed and discolored, and also because they want to eliminate things from their past that no longer mean anything to them.

Una de las cosas que me llamó la atención es que la mayoría de los tatuadores tenian tatuajes de no muy buena calidad jajaja, probablemente se los hicieron siendo muy jóvenes y con tatuadores no muy experimentados 🙄😬🤷🏻‍♀️.

One of the things that caught my attention is that most tattoo artists didn't have very good quality tattoos hahaha, they probably got them done when they were very young and with inexperienced tattoo artists 🙄😬🤷🏻‍♀️.

Para la hora que ya nos íbamos a ir, algunos tatuajes estaban casi listos, pero a la mayoría les faltaba bastante aún. Hubiese sido interesante ver finalizado cada uno de estos trabajos artísticos pero para eso había que quedarse hasta el final del evento y ya nos teníamos que ir.

By the time we were about to leave, some tattoos were almost finished, but most still had a long way to go. It would have been interesting to see each of these works of art completed, but to do so, we had to stay until the end of the event, and we had to leave.

El mundo del tatuaje es realmente amplio e interesante y cada día hay mas personas que quieren llevar algo escrito o dibujado en su piel. La recomendación es siempre la misma, hacerlo con profesionales que cumplan con las exigencias sanitarias, y revisar el portafolio del artista para estar seguros que se adapta al tipo de tatuaje que buscamos, si bien hay tatuadores muy talentosos que trabajan muy bien con todo tipo de diseños y estilos, los hay también que se especializan en algo en particular, ya sea retratos, hiperrealismo, blanco y negro, diseños asiáticos, cómics, 3D, vieja escuela, etc. Lo importante es saber elegir al artista que mas se adapte a lo que buscamos tatuarnos y estar seguros de lo que queremos para que después no tengamos que arrepentirnos jajaja.

The world of tattoos is truly vast and interesting, and every day more and more people want to have something written or drawn on their skin. The recommendation is always the same: get it done with professionals who comply with health requirements and review the artist's portfolio to make sure they fit the type of tattoo you're looking for. While there are very talented tattoo artists who work well with all kinds of designs and styles, there are also those who specialize in something in particular, be it portraits, hyperrealism, black and white, Asian designs, comics, 3D, old school, etc. The important thing is to know how to choose the artist who best suits what you're looking to get tattooed and be sure of what you want so you don't have any regrets later, haha.
