Entre mariposas 🦋 / Between butterflies 🦋

Saludos hivers. En el mundo de los insectos hay algunas especies que son particularmente populares, ya sea por su belleza o por su forma de ser. Una de esas especies son los lepidópteros, conocidos como mariposas, los que son diurnos, y como polillas y esfinges, los de hábitos nocturnos, aunque también hay mariposas nocturnas y polillas y esfinges diurnas.

Hello hivers. In the world of insects there are some species that are particularly popular, either for their beauty or their way of being. One of these species are the lepidopterans, known as butterflies, which are diurnal, and as moths and sphinxes, those with nocturnal habits, although there are also nocturnal butterflies and diurnal moths and sphinxes.

Si bien la mayoría de las personas siente simpatía por las mariposas, o al menos eso es lo que yo creo, hay gente que les tiene miedo, y a esa fobia se le conoce como Lepidopterofobia. Personalmente, no conozco a nadie que le tenga miedo a las mariposas, pero sí conozco personas que le tienen pánico a las polillas nocturnas, aunque su temor hacia estos insectos voladores está más relacionado a las supersticiones que a otra cosa 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️.

Although most people feel sympathy for butterflies, or at least that is what I believe, there are people who are afraid of them, and that phobia is known as Lepidopterophobia. Personally, I don't know anyone who is afraid of butterflies, but I do know people who are afraid of nocturnal moths, although their fear of these flying insects is more related to the superstitions than anything else 🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️.

Las mariposas son muy comunes en la ciudad donde vivo así que quiero compartir con ustedes algunas fotos que he podido hacerles, cosa que no siempre es fácil porque suelen ser inquietas y asustadizas, pero yo casi siempre tengo mucha suerte y hasta posan para mí jejeje 😎.

Butterflies are very common in the city where I live so I want to share with you some photos that I have been able to take of them, which is not always easy because they are usually restless and skittish, but I am almost always very lucky and they even pose for me hehehe 😎.

La primera modelo de esta publicación es una Heliconius erato, estas mariposas habitan en regiones neotropicales de Brasil, Venezuela, centro América e incluso en México y el estado de Texas. Esta la encontré mientas iba caminando por la calle.

The first model in this post is a Heliconius erato, these butterflies live in neotropical regions of Brazil, Venezuela, Central America and even in Mexico and the state of Texas. I found this one while I was walking down the street.

La superficie de las alas de las mariposas está recubierta de minúsculas escamas de aristas longitudinales sobre las cuales se altera la reflexión de la luz produciendo colores iridescentes y tornasolados muy llamativos / The surface of the butterfly wings is covered with tiny scales with longitudinal edges on which the reflection of light is altered, producing very striking iridescent colors

El 80% de las especies de mariposas viven en zonas tropicales, siendo Colombia el país con más especies de este insecto volador / 80% of butterfly species live in tropical areas, with Colombia being the country with the most species of this flying insect

La segunda protagonista es una Hermeuptychia hermes, casualmente su hábitat es igual al de la primera mariposa. A esta la fotografié mientras descansaba sobre la pared de mi cuarto.

The second protagonist is a Hermeuptychia hermes, coincidentally her habitat is the same as that of the first butterfly. I photographed this one while she was resting on the wall of my room.

Las mariposas son animales muy antiguos, así lo confirman fósiles hallados de unos 200 millones de años / Butterflies are very ancient animals, confirmed by fossils found about 200 million years old

Los lepidópteros son el segundo orden de insectos con más especies, más de 165.000 / Lepidoptera are the second order of insects with the most species, more than 165,000

Seguidamente les muestro a la Lycorea halia, es una mariposa muy llamativa a la que también se le conoce como Mariposa plebeya o Alas de tigre, de esta especie hice una publicación el año pasado, Pueden leer ese post aquí. La encontré en los pasillos de mi edificio, y como le tomé tantas fotos, todavía tengo fotos sin publicar así que decidí incluirla en esta lista jajaja.

Next I show you the Lycorea halia, it's a very striking butterfly that is also known as the Plebeian Butterfly or Tiger Wings, I made a post about this species last year, You can read that post here. I found her in the hallways of my building, and since I took so many photos of her that I haven't post, I decided to include her in this list hahaha.

Gracias a su sensibilidad, las mariposas son excelentes indicadores ecológicos ya que su presencia en una zona indica equilibrio y un ambiente sano, mientras que su ausencia puede significar que la zona está contaminada o que hay cambios físicos, químicos, de temperatura y precipitaciones en ese ecosistema / Thanks to their sensitivity, butterflies are excellent ecological indicators since their presence in an area indicates balance and a healthy environment, while their absence can mean that the area is contaminated or that there are physical, chemical, temperature and precipitation changes in that ecosystem

Las mariposas no tienen pulmones, su respiración es traqueal, respiran a través de espiráculos que pasan el aire a la tráquea por medio de tubos, para luego ser distribuido por todo el cuerpo, los espiráculos son unas pequeñas aberturas que están ubicadas a los lados del cuerpo / Butterflies don't have lungs, their respiration is tracheal, they breathe through spiracles that pass the air to the trachea through tubes, to then be distributed throughout the body, the spiracles are small openings that are located on the sides of the body

Aunque parezca surrealista y difícil de entender, las alas de las mariposas no tienen colores 😳🤔, a través de un efecto óptico, la luz que se refleja sobre ellas nos hace recrear todos esos colores / Although it may seem surreal and difficult to understand, butterfly wings have no colors 😳🤔, through an optical effect, the light that reflects on them makes us recreate all those colors

El aparato bucal de las mariposas tiene forma de trompa larga y se llama probóscide, cuando la mariposa no se está alimentando del néctar de las flores, la probóscide permanece recogida en forma de espiral / The mouthpart of butterflies is shaped like a long tube and is called proboscis. When the butterfly isn't feeding on the nectar of flowers, the proboscis remains collected in the shape of a spiral

El término lepidóptero es de origen griego y significa "alas de escamas" / The term lepidoptera is of Greek origin and means "wings of scales"

La cuarta modelo me costó identificarla, no estoy segura pero parece ser del género Parrhasius, aunque las que encontré en internet son de colores claros, pero, tienen en común unas pequeñas colas en la parte trasera de sus alas. A esta la encontré en la terraza de mi edificio.

The fourth model was difficult for me to identify, I'm not sure but it seems to be of the genus Parrhasius, although the ones I found on the internet are light colors, but, they have in common small tails on the back of their wings. I found this one on the terrace of my building.

Están llenas de órganos sensitivos en los ojos, tórax, antenas, alas, abdomen y patas que les permiten escuchar, ver y detectar cambios químicos en el entorno así como olores y ferormonas / They are full of sensitive organs in the eyes, thorax, antennae, wings, abdomen and legs that allow them to hear, see and detect chemical changes in the environment as well as odors and pheromones

Las mariposas tienen antenas finas que se vuelven más gruesas en los extremos / Butterflies have thin antennae that become thicker at the ends

Tienen una vista privilegiada gracias a sus ojos compuestos que les permiten detectar hasta el más mínimo movimiento o cambio de luz, pueden percibir los colores ultravioleta, muchas de ellas poseen estos colores sobre sus alas para atraer parejas, lamentablemente nuestra vista no puede verlos / They have a privileged view thanks to their compound eyes that allow them to detect even the slightest movement or change in light. They can perceive ultraviolet colors. Many of them have these colors on their wings to attract mates. Unfortunately, our eyesight cannot see them

La vida de las mariposas es relativamente corta 🥺☹️, algunas especies solamente viven 24 horas mientras otras pueden llegar a vivir hasta un año / The life of butterflies is relatively short 🥺☹️, some species only live 24 hours while others can live up to a year

Por último, otra Heliconius erato. Esta amiga se cruzó en mi camino mientras paseaba por uno de los parques de mi ciudad. Sólo pude hacerle dos fotos porque estaba muy feliz y emocionada volando entre las flores jejeje 🌼🌸🌺🏵️🦋.

Finally, another Heliconius erato. This friend crossed my path while I was walking through one of the parks in my city. I was only able to take two photos because she was very happy and excited flying among the flowers hehehe 🌼🌸🌺🏵️🦋.

Al igual que las abejas, las mariposas también juegan un papel crucial en la polinización / Like bees, butterflies also play a crucial role in pollination

Desde la antigüedad y hasta nuestros días, las mariposas siempre han estado presentes en la cultura popular del ser humano. Para algunos representan renacimiento, cambios, libertad y para otros la muerte y las almas de los que ya no están. Es común verlas en decoraciones y estampados y muchas personas las llevan tatuadas en sus cuerpos. Independientemente de las creencias de cada quien es importante respetar a esta hermosa especie porque su labor polinizadora dentro del orden de la naturaleza es vital.

From ancient times to the present day, butterflies have always been present in popular human culture. For some they represent rebirth, changes, freedom and for others death and the souls of those who are no longer here. It's common to see them in decorations and prints and many people have them tattooed on their bodies. Regardless of each person's beliefs, it's important to respect this beautiful species because its pollinating work within the order of nature is vital.
