Saludos hivers. Desde tiempos ancestrales, las serpientes siempre han generado sentimientos extremos en el ser humano, ya sea de amor o de odio, lo que hace que nunca pasen desapercibidas. Me parece injusto tener esa imagen negativa de un animal, sobretodo porque cuando investigamos bien nos damos cuenta que toda esa mala fama no es mas que el producto de historias y leyendas que la han ido etiquetando como un ser agresivo, malvado y traicionero, algo que por cierto empezó con la historia del jardín del Edén y todo lo que vino después 🍎🐍. Sin embargo, hoy no vengo a hablar de esto sino de arte jajaja porque la protagonista de mi pintura de hoy es una serpiente.

Hello hivers. Since ancient times, snakes have always generated extreme feelings in humans, whether of love or hate, which means they never go unnoticed. I think it's unfair to have that negative image of an animal, especially because when we investigate thoroughly we realize that all that bad reputation is nothing more than the product of stories and legends that have labeled her as an aggressive, evil, and treacherous being, something that, by the way, began with the story of the Garden of Eden and everything that came after 🍎🐍. However, today I'm not here to talk about this but about art, hahaha, because the protagonist of my painting today is a snake.

A pesar de la mala fama que el ser humano ha tejido alrededor de ellas, nadie puede negar que las serpientes tienen una belleza hipnótica y misteriosa, con sus intrigantes ojos, los increíbles diseños de sus pieles, sus sigilosos movimientos, la llamativa lengua bífida que las caracteriza y el poder de su veneno mortal han hecho de ella la villana de cuentos y leyendas. Las serpientes tienen la mezcla perfecta entre belleza y muerte, y a pesar de que para muchos eso es algo repugnante, para muchos otros, es lo que las hace fascinantes.

Despite the bad reputation humans have woven around them, no one can deny that snakes possess a hypnotic and mysterious beauty. Their intriguing eyes, the incredible patterns on their skin, their stealthy movements, their distinctive forked tongue, and the power of their deadly venom have made them the villains of tales and legends. Snakes are the perfect blend of beauty and death, and while for many, this is repugnant, for many others, it's what makes them fascinating.

Veamos como fue cobrando vida esta serpiente. Empecé con el boceto y mis materiales fueron, lápiz, borrador, acuarelas, pinceles y cartulina reciclada de una caja de lentejas.

Let's see how this snake came to life. I started with a sketch, and my materials were a pencil, eraser, watercolors, paintbrushes, and recycled cardboard from a lentil box.

Esta serpiente es una boa esmeralda (Corallus caninus), son nativas de los bosques tropicales del norte de sudamérica, Venezuela, Colombia, Brasil, Surinam, Guyana francesa, Guyana, Perú y Bolivia. Pasan la mayor parte de sus vidas sobre los árboles. Se caracterizan por tener un hermoso color verde con una línea blanca que cubre a lo largo toda la parte superior de su cuerpo, y la parte inferior es de color amarillo.

This snake is an emerald boa (Corallus caninus), native to the tropical forests of northern South America, Venezuela, Colombia, Brazil, Suriname, French Guiana, Guyana, Peru, and Bolivia. They spend most of their lives in trees. They are characterized by their beautiful green color with a white line running along the entire upper part of their body, and their underside is yellow.

Resalté las sombras con el color rojo que es el complementario del verde. También pinté la rama sobre la que se está deslizando esta amiga, para ello usé tonos grises, y amarillo y verde para las hojas, en la parte inferior pinté la copa de un árbol.

I highlighted the shadows with red, which is the color that complements green. I also painted the branch this friend is gliding on, using shades of gray, and yellow and green for the leaves. At the bottom, I painted the crown of a tree.

A continuación pinté el cielo con un azul muy claro y agregué algunas sombras a la rama, la copa del árbol y las hojas.

Next I painted the sky a very light blue and added some shadows to the branch, treetop, and leaves.

Como tengo un estuche de acuarelas metálicas quise darle un toque brillante a esta boa así que pinté su ojo de color dorado y resalté las partes verdes con el verde metálico.

Since I have a case of metallic watercolors, I wanted to give this boa a shiny touch, so I painted her eye gold and highlighted the green parts with metallic green.

Y este es el resultado final. Así como las esmeraldas brillan en un elegante collar, de la misma manera la boa esmeralda embellece las ramas de los árboles sobre los que se desliza sigilosamente en busca de alguna presa, o simplemente para tomar una siesta, aunque siempre debe estar alerta frente a su mayor peligro, el jaguar.

And this is the end result. Just as emeralds sparkle in an elegant necklace, the emerald boa adorns the branches of the trees it stealthily glides over in search of prey, or simply to take a nap, though she must always be alert to her greatest danger, the jaguar.
