Saludos hivers. Hace dos semanas hice una publicación para mostrarles las aves que forman parte del zoológico de Las Delicias en Maracay (Aragua), aquí el post, hoy le toca al resto de los animales, entre ellos hay leones, llamas, monos, zorros, hienas, venados, capibaras, dantas, pumas, jaguares, etc. Si bien los zoológicos han cambiado su misión y razón de ser a nivel mundial, y desde hace unos años se han convertido en aliados para la conservación y reproducción de especies en peligro de extinción, hay una sola cosa que no ha cambiado, y es que por más grande y bonita que sea una jaula o un recinto, la libertad seguirá estando muy lejos. Mi intención hoy no es irme hacia terrenos filosóficos, así que los invito a este paseo a simplemente disfrutar de la belleza de estos magníficos animales, a pesar de los barrotes y los vidrios que nos separan de ellos.

Hello hivers. Two weeks ago I made a post to show you the birds that are part of the Las Delicias zoo in Maracay (Aragua), here the post, today it's the turn of the rest of the animals, among them there are lions, llamas, monkeys, foxes, hyenas, deer, capybaras, tapirs, pumas, jaguars, etc. Although zoos have changed their mission and reason for being worldwide, and for a few years now they have become allies for the conservation and reproduction of endangered species, there is only one thing that hasn't changed, and that is that no matter how big and beautiful a cage or enclosure is, freedom will still be very far away. My intention today is not to go into philosophical territory, so I invite you to this walk to simply enjoy the beauty of these magnificent animals, despite the bars and glass that separate us from them.

Venezuela tiene una gran diversidad de animales, en el zoológico de Las Delicias hay fauna local y también fauna exótica de África y Asia. Antiguamente los animales que estaban en los zoológicos eran extraídos de sus hábitats naturales, es decir, eran cazados específicamente para ser llevados y exhibidos en los zoológicos, actualmente esta práctica ha quedado casi completamente en desuso y los animales que vemos en estos lugares han nacido en cautiverio, han sido rescatados de circos y colecciones privadas, o decomisados del tráfico ilegal.

Venezuela has a great diversity of animals. The Las Delicias zoo has local fauna and also exotic fauna from Africa and Asia. In the past, the animals that were in the zoos were taken from their natural habitats, that is, they were hunted specifically to be taken and exhibited in the zoos. Nowadays, this practice has almost completely fallen into disuse and the animals that we see in these places have been born in captivity, have been rescued from circuses and private collections, or confiscated from illegal trafficking.

Los felinos suelen ser los favoritos de los visitantes, tanto por su impresionante belleza como por el poder y la fuerza que transmiten. En el zoológico de Las Delicias hay dos espacios exclusivos para ellos, uno es un espacio de 500 metros cuadrados, el cual está acondicionado con áreas verdes, rocas, estanques de agua y otros elementos acordes a las necesidades de cada especie para que puedan descansar, entretenerse y explorar, estos recintos están rodeados de vidrios blindados para permitir al público tener un contacto más cercano a ellos, los otros espacios son áreas grandes con rejas ubicados en el centro del parque entre las caminerías y las áreas verdes. En el área de vidrio está una pareja de leones blancos nacidos en un zoológico de la República Checa, también hay Onzas o Yaguarundi (Herpailurus yagouaroundi), pumas, y Jaguares (Panthera onca).

Felines are usually the favorites of visitors, both for their impressive beauty and for the power and strength they transmit. In the Las Delicias Zoo there are two exclusive spaces for them, one is a 500 square meter space, which is equipped with green areas, rocks, water ponds and other elements according to the needs of each species so that they can rest, entertain themselves and explore, these enclosures are surrounded by armored glass to allow the public to have closer contact with them, the other spaces are large areas with fences located in the center of the park between the walkways and the green areas. In the glass area there is a pair of white lions born in a zoo in the Czech Republic, there are also jaguarundi (Herpailurus yagouaroundi), pumas, and jaguars (Panthera onca).

La mayoría de los felinos son de hábitos nocturnos, y es por eso que no pude ver ni a los pumas, ni a las onzas que estaban en el área de vidrio blindado, por más que los busqué con la vista no los ví, estaban muy bien escondidos jajaja 🤷🏻‍♀️, la pareja de leones sí estaban ahí pero no les tomé fotos porque a esa hora el reflejo del sol sobre el vidrio era muy fuerte y en la foto no se veía nada 🥴. El Ocelote o Cunaguaro (Leopardus pardalis), y el otro Jaguar (Panthera onca) que se encuentran en las jaulas alrededor de las áreas verdes estaban durmiendo, a estos sí los ví pero estaban escondidos en lugares donde no pegaba mucho la luz del sol, así que no se veían bien, les tomé varias fotos pero cuando las revisé casi no se apreciaba nada así que las borré 😕. Sólo le tomé fotos a la leona 😁.

Most felines are nocturnal, and that's why I couldn't see the pumas or the ounces that were in the armored glass area, no matter how hard I looked for them I didn't see them, they were very well hidden hahaha 🤷🏻‍♀️, the pair of lions were there but I didn't take photos of them because at that time the reflection of the sun on the glass was very strong and nothing could be seen in the photo 🥴. The Ocelot or Cunaguaro (Leopardus pardalis), and the other Jaguar (Panthera onca) that are in the cages around the green areas were sleeping, I did see them but they were hiding in places where the sunlight didn't hit much, so they couldn't be seen well, I took several photos of them but when I checked them almost nothing could be seen so I deleted them 😕. I only took photos of the lioness 😁.

He visto muchísimos animales salvajes, la mayoría de ellos obviamente en zoológicos, sin embargo, nunca había visto hienas, son realmente impresionantes, puedes percibir lo fuertes que son, es como un perro con esteroides 💪🏻 jajaja, estas dos son hienas manchadas. La verdad es que me dió mucha tristeza verlas en ese lugar, una de ellas parecía ansiosa, se paraba sobre las rejas y movía su cuello hacia atrás, no sé si estaba estresada o si lo que tenía era hambre, a esa hora los cuidadores estaban por todo el parque alimentando a los animales así que quizás lo que tenía era mucha hambre. El lugar donde están no me pareció adecuado, lo sentí como claustrofóbico 🥺, creo que lo ideal sería tenerlas en una fosa de esas que están rodeadas de agua.

I have seen many wild animals, most of them obviously in zoos, however, I had never seen hyenas, they are really impressive, you can feel how strong they are, it's like a dog on steroids 💪🏻 hahaha, these two are spotted hyenas. The truth is that it made me very sad to see them in that place, one of them seemed anxious, she stood on the bars and moved her neck back, I don't know if she was stressed or if she was hungry, at that time the keepers were all over the park feeding the animals so maybe she was just very hungry. The place where they are didn't seem suitable to me, it felt like claustrophobic 🥺, I think the ideal would be to have them in one of those pits that are surrounded by water.

Este lugar cuenta con siete hectáreas, de las cuales, 5.000 mts cuadrados corresponden a áreas verdes y grama, en estas hay lagunas, están los recintos de los animales y la granja de contacto, los restantes 5.000 mts cuadrados, están destinados a las caminerías y las áreas del restaurante y el puente. Es realmente agradable y relajante sentarse en alguno de los bancos a descansar, o caminar por sus espacios, todos muy bien cuidados y recuperados después de la reestructuración integral que se le hizo al zoológico.

This place has seven hectares, of which 5,000 square meters correspond to green areas and grass, in these there are lagoons, the animal enclosures and the contact farm, the remaining 5,000 square meters are intended for walkways and the restaurant and bridge areas. It's really nice and relaxing to sit on one of the benches to rest, or walk through its spaces, all very well maintained and recovered after the comprehensive restructuring that was done to the zoo.

Otro de los animales favoritos de la gente son los monos, en este zoológico hay un grupo de monos capuchinos en un espacio bastante amplio con elementos para jugar, socializar y dormir. Era la hora de la comida así que solamente uno nos prestó atención jajaja, los demás estaban concentrados en sus frutas.

Another of people's favorite animals are monkeys. At this zoo there is a group of capuchin monkeys in a fairly large space with elements to play, socialize and sleep. It was meal time so only one paid attention to us hahaha, the others were focused on their fruits.

Algunos animales como lo son las alpacas y las llamas, están acostumbradas a vivir en el clima frío de la cordillera de los Andes así que no sé cómo se sentirán viviendo en el calor de una ciudad como Maracay 🥵. Tienen sombra para mantenerse frescos pero la temperatura es incluso fuerte bajo la sombra, sin embargo todas se veían bastante tranquilas y a gusto comiendo su pasto.

Some animals, like alpacas and llamas, are used to living in the cold climate of the Andes mountain range, so I don't know how they feel about living in the heat of a city like Maracay 🥵. They have shade to keep cool, but the temperature is even strong under the shade, however, they all looked quite calm and happy eating their grass.

En la laguna que está en el centro hay tortugas de río de varias especies, también hay otro grupo de ellas que están en el estanque de los caimanes, son tortugas bastante grandes. La vegetación está presente en todo el parque con árboles, arbustos y plantas de flores. Si bien en las caminerías hay bastante sol, hay muchos lugares con sombra para refrescarse.

In the lagoon in the center there are river turtles of various species, there is also another group of them in the alligator pond, they are quite large turtles. Vegetation is present throughout the park with trees, bushes and flowering plants. Although there is a lot of sun on the paths, there are many shady places to cool off.

Los felinos no fueron los únicos que estaban escondidos, el zorro se había acurrucado entre un montón de hojas secas y dormía plácidamente, y después de mirar con atención buscando al mapache finalmente lo ví durmiendo en la cima del árbol en una postura bastante graciosa jajaja 🥱. El oso hormiguero nos sorprendió apareciendo de repente, ni sabíamos que en el zoológico había uno jajaja, salió de su escondite y volvió a esconderse como si estuviese apurado jajaja, a pesar de que le tomé varias fotos, salieron borrosas porque se movía de un lado a otro 😕. Es un animal muy extraño pero muy lindo. También había dos enormes caimanes en el estanque que está detrás de la granja de contacto pero el sol de mediodía estaba directo hacia mí y no les tomé fotos 🥵🥴.

The felines weren't the only ones hiding, the fox had curled up in a pile of dry leaves and was sleeping peacefully, and after looking carefully for the raccoon I finally saw it sleeping on top of the tree in a pretty funny position hahaha 🥱. The anteater surprised us by suddenly appearing, we didn't even know there was one in the zoo hahaha, he came out of his hiding place and hid again as if he was in a hurry hahaha, even though I took several photos of him, they came out blurry because he was moving from one side to the other 😕. It's a very strange but very cute animal. There were also two huge alligators in the pond behind the petting farm but the midday sun was directly at me and I didn't take any pictures of them 🥵🥴.

Todos los animales se veían bonitos y muy bien cuidados y alimentados, y sus espacios estaban limpios. En general, el zoológico luce hermoso, la grama, las áreas verdes y los espacios donde sentarse están en excelentes condiciones, otra de las cosas que me dió una grata impresión fue el personal que trabaja allí, tanto en la taquilla, la recepción, los guardias, las personas de mantenimiento y limpieza y los cuidadores, todos te saludan con amabilidad y una sonrisa, eso es muy agradable para cualquiera que visite este lugar.

All the animals looked nice and were very well cared for and fed, and their enclosures were clean. Overall, the zoo looks beautiful, the grass, green areas and seating areas are in excellent condition, another thing that gave me a pleasant impression was the staff that works there, both at the ticket office, reception, guards, maintenance and cleaning people and the caretakers, they all greet you with kindness and a smile, that's very nice for anyone who visits this place.

Para cualquiera que ame a los animales no le es fácil verlos encerrados y fuera de su hábitat, sin embargo, la mayoría de todos estos amiguitos que hacen vida en el zoológico de Las Delicias nacieron en cautiverio y tienen una misión que va más allá de simplemente estar ahí para que los veamos, son la esperanza para el futuro de sus respectivas especies, las cuales están en peligro por culpa de nosotros mismos 😞.

For anyone who loves animals, it's not easy to see them locked up and out of their habitat, however, most of these little friends who live at the Las Delicias Zoo were born in captivity and have a mission that goes beyond simply being there for us to see them, they are the hope for the future of their respective species, which are in danger because of ourselves 😞.

Ninguna jaula o espacio abierto, por más grande y hermoso que sea puede sustituir el hábitat de estos animales, ni la sensación de libertad, podemos quitarles eso, sí, pero jamás podremos quitarles la belleza que hace único a cada uno de ellos 💖. Ojalá algún día, este planeta esté en tan perfecto equilibrio entre la naturaleza y el ser humano, y el respeto y amor mutuos sean tan grandes, que no exista ninguna necesidad de tener a nadie encerrado para ningún fin. No cage or open space, no matter how big and beautiful, can replace the habitat of these animals, nor the feeling of freedom. We can take that away from them, yes, but we can never take away the beauty that makes each of them unique 💖. I hope that one day, this planet will be in such perfect balance between nature and human beings, and mutual respect and love will be so great, that there will be no need to keep anyone locked up for any purpose.
