Wear my shirt

It might sound like an odd request but play along for now because it should all be clear and make sense at the end of the words below. Maybe. probably. For sure, possibly.
Once a month I shoot with a select group of fellows who have particular skills similar to mine that we all want to keep sharply...umm...sharp. (Ok, I know that wasn't my best writing right there.)
Anyway, we gather at the gun range and set up various "scenarios" that replicate real-world military situations on the open range and within a building complex complete with "bad guys" and "good guys and gals" and we run and gun (with semi-automatic handguns) through these scenarios as quickly and with as much accuracy as possible; the runs are timed and scored then discussed, improvements found and run once again. We do this for fun but also because skills required for this sort of thing are hard-won and diminish if not used. Oh, the aim is not to hit the "good guys and gals" but it happens which is why we practice - Fortunately I'm talking about targets that are representative of shoot and no-shoot targets not actual guys and gals.
One of these chaps has transitioned from his former life and now works in a local gun shop at which I shop now and then, and yes I get good discounts and some freebies as well because he's my buddy and I shop there a lot too I suppose.
The other day I was there and the owner of the shop told me he was putting together a team to represent his shop at a large shooting event (a competition thing) that throws teams of people like me into the grinder to battle with the others for ultimate glory...some sort of trophy I guess, and the right to say fuck you we fucken won and you suck! (Not that anyone there is likely to say such a thing out loud.)
He asked if I'd wear his shirt - that means he wanted me to be a team member was going to sponsor me for the event as part of his team.
Sponsorship means ammunition for the purposes of practice and training leading into the event and for the event itself (thousands of rounds), associated equipment as required, airfare in and out, accommodation, meals, a car when we arrive at the airport and other such things. All I have to do is bring my handguns and wear his shirt - the team shirt - and, oh yeah, do my best to win as part of the team.
I've been a sponsored shooter in the past, usually for long-range rifle shooting which is what I'm well-trained for and it's good and bad...good because it means free everything, bad because it means a lot of pressure to deliver a result commensurate to the level of free stuff; it becomes a job. And speaking of jobs, There's no payment as such so I'd need to take 4-5 days off work meaning I'd use my own annual leave entitlements...but I'm ok with that; done it before loads of times.
I've not decided what I'm going to do yet but considering I'll be shooting as part of a team that includes a couple of my bros who I shoot with regularly and I feel we have a solid chance to win represent at a high level I think I'm leaning into it...and it'll be some fun and life is meant to deliver exactly that.

Nothing better than when you use your vacation days for something you love. Even if you arrange for your partner (she is your biggest fan) to go with you, it's a big hit! 🙂
I wish you a steady hand and good shooting. As many clean hits as possible (grandmothers with bags to miss) 😀
It'll be a good time for sure, intense of course, but enjoyable. As for "good shooting" that's always the plan and usually the case. 😊
Great post @galenkp👕
Loved the storytelling and the humor behind “Wear My Shirt.” It’s always fun to read something so relatable and wellwritten. Keep them coming 😄📝
No worries.
Just so you know, the word wellwritten you write above is not actually a word. You should place a hyphen between the two individual words to link them like this:
Well-written.
I figured, as someone who's commenting about other people's a writing, you may like to understand how to write in English a little better yourself.
Yes I understand thanks for that
Check out her posts, you will get cringe vibes xD
No personality in content. Just content spinning xD
Since it has no upvotes, let her enjoy till she can lol
(
if we nuke their ships too early, they will create new ships and continue again)Yeah, I thought that may be the case.
With this gear, no Karen will try to come near you :)
Only those I want near me. 😉
So you can practice your shooting skills? Lol
One must keep one's skills sharp.
Did you learn to shoot at military service or by yourself?
It sounds a hella fun event, if I were you I would go for sure... And a competition, ahhh that's the best I can ask... How many days you have per year of vacation? I barely have 20 so a thing like this would kill a big portion
I have always been attracted by shooting like this, but it's a pain in the ass and expensive here, you need to do the theory exam, then practice exam and all this costs 500-700€ already, then to shoot you need to pay the entrance, then pay the rent of the weapon then pay the bullets and here there are not really gun shops and such
I'm a trained long range shooter and, of course, with handguns as well; I pride myself on how good I am at it, and the other elements around the skill.
Having guns (and the licensing and other requirements) is costly here too, but it's one of the things I'm good at and for over 35 years I've been involved with owning and using firearms in various applications. I enjoy it and enjoy the confidence being a good shooter brings.
No gun shops there? I live in a small city and State of only about 1.2 million people and we have 12-15 gun shops, maybe even a few more.
As for annual leave...
I have 20 working days all up each year (4 weeks). I also have an additional 10 days as paid sick leave and 3 days as bereavement leave (when someone in my family dies) each year. That's about the standard. I also accrue days in lieu which means additional days off during the working week on those occasions I work on a Saturday or Sunday. I generally gain about 20-25 of those days each year to take in the working week when I want to, or to use instead of my sick leave days. These days mean I work the Saturday or Sunday for no pay but get paid them when I take them in the working week. It's a good system that I'm happy with.
I actually take time off when and as required, like a few hours here or there for appointments like the dentist. My company pay me for this time because they know how hard I work and what value I bring, which is nice.
Hopefully that makes it clear.
Also, yep I reckon I'll do the shooting thing...it'll be a good event and I think there's some fuckers that need to be beaten! 😬
I did a check on Google, there are 3 gun shops over all the province (900k inhabitants) but I'm not sure if they are the same as yours, they are called armory
You are very passionate on it, I can feel that 😅 I would really like to try it too
That flexibility at work sounds good, you can go at events like this without waste "main" holidays... If you go we want a post and shame wall on the last team in the ranks!
Probably not so much passionate as the fact I see it as an essential skill considering what I do and have done.
I was going to do something like this, let's see what happens.
I would say you worked for the police or the army then 🤔

It'll be great, join in, you'll have a great time with the group and doing what you love, plus the T-shirt is cute. You'll be doing something different and... they have to win! They have to!
Well, that's not a competition shirt, just one of my old ones. It has a hand grenade on the front and the text says:
"Fuck that guy and everyone near him."
He's warning you! Behave yourselves!😂
Although I know you are not asking for advice I would encourage you to join and enjoy the adventure.
It is true that there are elements that are not favorable such as not getting paid or having to use part of his vacation time for this. But, you will be in one of your favorite activities, with people who are important in your life, you will have the possibility of access to a group of "royalties" as part of the sponsorship and, in the end, you will have fun.
Anyway, I wish you the best in this adventure that I would call "VICTORY".
Happy journey.
Cheers and best regards.
I'm leaning towards doing the event and the more I think about it the more I want to do it. I used to do this sort of thing all the time and always had a good time and hanging out with some good people is always enjoyable.
I am glad that this is the case.
Have fun, that's the most important thing.
I'm sure you'll do a post to explain how this adventure went. Cheers and best regards.
That sounds like a pretty cool experience. His shop must be doing well that he can afford to sponsor you like that. Which is awesome for him and awesome for you too if you decide to go through with it. I understand what you mean about it becoming like a job. It makes sense why you would have a bit of hesitation on the matter.
Yeah, events like this are always enjoyable; I've done heaps of them, with sponsorship and without, and have never not had a great time. I'm leaning towards a yes for many reasons.
Well best of luck to you then!
I think that sounds fecking excellent man, A hit to the A/L but probably worth it. Get in and help win that tihng!
Those fuckers must be slain!
Figuratively speaking of course.
Or not.
Seriously though, slain!
Ok, just joking. A bit.
It'll be a good thing, a pretty big event in the circles I mix and I'd like to go up against those fuckers and slay or be slain I'd that's how it goes. Figuratively speaking of course.
They will be all kinds of slain!!
Slaining is the least they can expect.
I hope they all learn from the master!
Some will learn, some maybe will teach (I don't know everything) but all will be slain by the end. Ok, well maybe not all. And maybe not "slain* per se. Just crushed and left defeated. Or slain.
Definitely not all slain. Definitely. Except they all will be. It's unfortunate, but we don't make the rules
True enough, I'll spare some of those poor bastards a slaying...and then slay them later, or before.
And then, off to the pub for a schnitty and beer.
It's the perfect post slaying fodder!
Indeed it is, and I can always slay anyone who escaped a slaying previously. Then buy them a beer.
Sounds really great to me! I do this kind of shooting, on a very beginner level, and I love it. I suck at it! But it's fun, and I feel somewhat better prepared should I ever find myself in a bad position with a pistol in my hand.
One of the most important things in life is to be ready before one needs to be ready and this is just another aspect. It never makes sense to me when people faily to prepare, or have the, "it'll all be ok," ethos rather than the prior preparation mindset.
I think we all have the "it'll all be OK" attitude about some things. We're very much going to have to rely on each other if shtf. I know nothing about law for instance at this point and it's not on my of-concern list but it probably should be. I'll at least know how to operate and very likely hit a target with a pistol if that becomes necessary. I find that comforting.
I'm working very hard on getting medicine (via homeopathy) well under my belt - when shtf, medical services will be very hard hit. The holster and gun I'll have to borrow.
More of us, myself included, could do with knowing more about laws.
Having medical skills is something so many people push aside in preference for other things but should not. In difficult situations a minor medical issue could spin out if control of not treated/addressed so a basic understanding at the very least is important.
As for legal aspects, it's probably the same as above I'd think. It's a minefield as well.
There are homeopathic remedies for these instances, a great many of them. Stop hemorrhaging, ameliorate excruciating pain, restart a heart kind of stuff. Minor issues do not spiral as often out of control if treated correctly.
The legal. This post has made me want to know at least a little more. I'll start with laws regarding homeopathy. At present, thankfully, there are very few.
Yep, it's definitely something we used to know more about (generally) and has become somewhat lost to most nowadays. A shame really. I guess it's all (or partly) thanks to big pharma and human greed and the desire to make everything easy and accessible. It's the same with other basic skills that kept us alive like hunting, cooking, building with our hands. I'm speaking generally here, but so many skills have been lost/discarded.
This is right up your alley! I would bet money that you'll be wearin' that shirt and you'll look damned fine in it too! It's an opportunity to do something you love (shooting and winning) and you'd have so much fun!
I did a lot of this in the past and enjoyed it but called an end to it when it started to feel like a job, but I missed it a lot so it makes sense to rekindle the flame huh? I saw the team shirt earlier this week, looks pretty good and I'll wear it the best I can.
Rekindle that flame! You would look good in a feed sack, so you will look fantastic in the team shirt!
The old hessian peasant tunic...yeah, I rock it when I wear one of them. Cut a head and two arm holes and just slip it on; people tend to look with werd expressions but I know they're just admiring the look wishing they could have a hessian wheat sack tunic as well.
lol I can't see you in a peasant tunic, but you would be rockin' it..lol @wheat sack tunic.
They chafe a little, but fucken hell I rock that shit!
Greetings, my friend! I see that a couple of days have passed since you wrote this, but I think you should do it. From what you say, these people are good friends and share interests that not many people have. It sounds like a good plan, and I think that no one but you understands how important it is to live each day to the fullest. I hope you feel comfortable with the decision you make... The name of that team is POWERFUL! 😎
life is too short not to do some cool shit and so I've actually agreed to do the event and shoot it as a sponsored shooter; it's going to be a blast.
