Krazzy American lizard and meaningful engagement
I've been here for a while now, since June 2017, and have made some really cool connections and can honestly say that without them I'd not be around. They know who they are so I'll not name them and with some I've taken the relationship off the blockchain through phone calls, WhatsApp and with some we've sent things to each other which is pretty cool. I value them all, you too if you're one of those "really cool connections," as part of the attraction of Hive that keeps me here and active.
Several days ago I saw that my beloved cat Cleo had found Krazzy American Lizard (KAL for short), a little toy she loves.
KAL is a weird looking lizard toy that came into Cleo's possession through one of the connections I mention above, namely @krazzytrukker, who is one of those folks I've exchanged things with in the mail and off-chain via phone.
Over six years ago the resident krazzy man from Florida USA sent two of these things to me for my cats Merlin and Cleo and they were well loved and used by both. Unfortunately I lost Merlin at the age of 22 years in the middle of 2020 but Cleo still loves KAL and can often be found playing with him, carrying him around in her mouth and she likes to sleep next to him as well, as you can see in the images. We've tied a bit of wool to him so we can play with Cleo, get her a little more active, because she likes to sleep a lot, and she enjoys it...but not as much as she enjoys sleeping.
Sometimes at night, I wake to Cleo playing with KAL and meowing a lot, and loudly, and then up on the bed she jumps with KAL in her mouth which is where we'll find her in the morning, asleep next to KAL. It's pretty cute.
Recently, I received a package from Finland, a user I communicate with quite often on WhatsApp, with some super cool stuff included and I'm in the process of gathering some things for her so I can reciprocate. From another Hive user in Florida I received a hand written letter and some other things recently including a book she'd read and thought I'd like - a very cool gift indeed - and again, one to which I'll reciprocate with some cool stuff in return.
Over the years other such things have come back and forth between here and wherever those "really cool connections" may live and it's been a nice thing which has made my time on Hive feel more personal and connected person-to-person. I can't recall all of the places I've sent to but for sure Scotland, England, Romania, several to people in the USA and Germany and some others as well, but no matter where, it's the strength of connection person-to-person that has been the reason.
Krazzy American Lizard isn't always front and centre, Cleo hides him for weeks on end then all of a sudden KAL is back and the toy-of-the-moment. I think that's a little like the relationships I mention above, they're not every day things (mostly), but they're always there and can be relied upon to deliver a nice feeling of connection and enjoyment.
I'm pretty careful with my details and what I divulge on the internet including my real name. I've entrusted it to a few of course, customs shipping forms dictate it, and that's ok, they've entrusted theirs to me as well along with a lot more besides.
I get a constant flood of Discord friend and DM requests and rarely accept any - for some reason no one identifies themselves and if they think I'll accept some random person they must be fucken bonkers, however I have accepted a few here and there, those I've engaged with a lot on the blockchain, despite not really liking Discord. Of course, I'm quite selective and ask that people verify themselves before things go too far. Having said that, solid connections can be made and I like that about Hive and those few who engage with me in meaningful ways on my posts and theirs. I think there should be more of it, meaningful engagement.

Ah the discord requests. Arent they a delight. If you do accept them you get some meaningless chatter and two minutes later they get to the crux of the matter. Give me votes or something similar. Fucking wanks.
That KAL is the coolest thing ever. I loved mad cat toys. We are still hunting for cats but I dont know about over there here it is like the housing market, People are charging a fucking fortune for basic cats and then half the time you express interest you get gazumped or they try to rug you and get more cash. Even the charity places are kak.
Wanks indeed. I mean, I don't have an issue with people reaching out but like you say, it's the asking for votes or handouts I hate; some people have now shame.
I'm surprised you still haven't gotten a new cat but understand why; cost and all, and you need to find the right one. I'd loan you Cleo if you lived closer. (Not really, I'd be lost without her.)
The thing I hate about Discord request is some just send a Hi or an emoji, then nothing else. If you have an urgent matter, just say it, otherwise I'm happy to have an open conversation in public providing you're not a dxxxhead.
Off chain relationships are one of the best things that's happened here, especially when you get to meet people IRL. And when you get these random things by through the post, it's makes it so special. Recently I got a soft toy,a Bee to go with my new project, it's so ultra soft and comforting that I hug onto all the time when I 'work'. Now I know why babies love cuddly toys.
I just wish the postal system is more reliable and I can share things with other countries. Still gutted that postcards I sent two years ago still haven't arrived to Venezuela, Cuba, Philippines, or Pakistan

I'm sorry your postcards didn't make it, that would suck. I really enjoy that deeper element, taking the relationships off the blockchain, but I'm really selective and careful, no idiots allowed.
Cleo is beautiful and she likes the toy very much. The same thing happens with mine, they hide some of the toys and after a few days they bring it out as a trophy and bring it to me.
It's great to create those genuine connections, I've done it too, with very very few people and the relationship is beautiful, with great exchanges. Above all there is a lot of respect and honesty.
I don't have discord, I had once and the experience was so bad that I hear the name and I get allergic.
She sure is, a lovely cat and the reason I smile every day.

Hi @galenkp, I will be very brief on this occasion. What keeps me in Hive, and my commitment, is precisely my relationship with other Hiviers. This year I have had the opportunity to meet in person one of those special connections and I believe that in a month or so I will be meeting in person with another of these special connections.
This has been very special for me.

I'm fortunate to attract a bunch of witty people to my comments section, and I can often be found chuckling to myself as I plant the spuds and recall some of the clever comments I've received. There are some real jokers out there!
That's nice and exactly how it should be. I sometimes get people fishing for comment votes, they're easily spotted, but there's a few whose comments I look forward seeing and it's those people who keep me around.
Haha, that's pretty funny, I never really even realized you were on Discord :) I guess it makes sense, we probably don't hang around in many of the same servers. Taht is cool that you have those connections you have made. I started doing the silver stacker secret santa exchange last year and that has been fun. They do a good job of keeping everything mostly anonymous though. I have sent @steevc some guitar picks in the past. I actually have another one to send him sometime, but I will likely wait until I get more to make it worth the postage to the UK.
I don't hang around in any servers at all, I'd rather chew my own face off at the same time as stubbing my toe and eating tofu while being at work and not having a weekend. I'm in a group with some of the old-school folks, there's six of us in it, and that's all I use Discord for.
Ah, okay. That's cool. I have found some decent people here and there. A lot of the servers are just drama, so I don't really blame you for that. Like you I have some folks that I chat with one on one. We kind of came up together on here and have grown together over the past seven years or so on HIVE. Most of those conversations are one on one though.
Cleo and KAL looking neat and lovely together but have you taken you time to know why Cleo likes not just sleeping but a lot hahaha does she eat too much 😆😁
House cats sleep between 12-16 hours a day naturally so that's why Cleo sleeps so much. I don't mind, she looks cute when she sleeps.
