In the Spotlight
Hive Core Devs Team Meeting and Blocktrades Roadmap for Hive
This has been quite a dense Hive news week, and eventful crypto, at least price-wise, too.
But let's focus on Hive first, as always. A new Hive core devs meeting was held (or recording published) this week. A day before that, Blocktrades had published an updated roadmap for their Hive-related work.
Obviously, there is quite a bit of overlap between the two.
What particularly drew my attention (although others may be equally or even more important) are:
- plans (2026 Q2) to make Hive nodes (i.e.
hived
) so small that they could run from a mobile phone! Imagine the kind of world-wide Hive node distribution and coverage, and the resilience our blockchain will have at that point! Africa is almost entirely smartphones and I don't think we have any Hive node in Africa. Maybe one(?), but not in the regions where we have most users. - embeddable HTML components for Hive (collaboration with PeakD, part of their customizable UI project for which they requested DHF funding): this project perhaps has good perspectives, depending on how quick, customizable, and lightweight the new components will be.
- we have a date in the roadmap for support of Coinbase Mesh API for Hive (whatever that effectively means for us): 2026 Q1, and Blocktrades seems to be pushing on it: it's the second meeting in a row when he specifically asked how are things going, and they seem stuck at a response that is needed from Coinbase.
- efforts are being made to get Apple to adopt Hive for podcast live notifications (PodPing); potentially, that could lead to integrating Hive into core Apple platform... Obviously, that would be major news, but let's see when we get there.
Marketing / Awareness / Branding / Meetings
Supermarket in Ecuador Onboarded to Hive
I noticed their presentation post first, which immediately made me think MenO has something to do with this—since he lives in Ecuador—and I received confirmation soon enough, through his post.
Work and Fun at Hive Hub Guate
I have seen a few people who joined over there and maybe they are hooked of Hive already. Awesome! I hope they discover Hive beyond the cashback and rewards at some point, too.
In the meantime, our Hive volunteers keep us in the loop with what they've been doing over there. Let's see!
Hive Rewards at LCX Exchange
LCX Exchange is an exchange in Liechtenstein, Europe. They say they are one of the largest in Europe, but I hope that's not the case, looking at their volumes, as reported on CMC.
They added HIVE to their exchange recently, and a pair with EUR. That's... nice! A new listing, and one for EUR too, for us Europeans, if we need.
And now there is a volume-based contest for HIVE traders on their exchange, with 20k HIVE to be won by top 30 in the leaderboard. You should check the rules of the contest. For example, a minimum of 1k USD trading volume is required to qualify.
Ghana Boreholes Map
@louis88 made a custom Google Map with all Hive-funded boreholes in Ghana, for anyone interested of their exact location on the map. I surely can "see" them better on a map!
Governance / Development / Dapps / Education
Ecency Made Significant Updates to Their Front End
Among them:
- one can log in without giving away the posting authority (which requires active key)
- added 2 more types of communities (and added posting and commenting restrictions to match the new types of communities)
- geo tagging: the possibility of adding location to your posts when publishing (in collaboration with WorldMapPin)
- promoting and muting waves
I need to check them out... So far, only read the announcement.
New Version of Keychain Mobile
In v2.7 of Keychain Mobile, improvements to the in-app browser were made for a smoother browsing experience and switching between browser and wallet (just in time, because I'll be using it soon!), also better history management and favorites, dynamically switching RPC and more.
In a separate update for the browser extensions, we were announced Hive Keychain was translated to Spanish and Portuguese and that they are looking for more translators.
Impressed by the Impactful New Image-Focused AI Features on PeakD
PeakD added and iterated on their image-focused AI features for a good while now. But seeing some results obtained with the new model they added (FLUX Kontext Pro), makes me realize how powerful they have become.
Games
Conclave Arcana Conflicts Come to Splinterlands
The first 30-day CA conflict starts on July 16th, at 4PM UTC. Note that in these conflicts, 1 random wagon gets damaged and needs to be repaired (same cost as a new one) for every airdropped card. Wagon Kits needed to repair your damaged wagons can be crafted on Land or purchased on NCM. Here are all the details.
Holozing Battle System
Something is brewing for Holozing... At least, we will likely be able to open the Alpha vials and then the collection rewards will gear more toward that soon, before we can play the game. Until then, read on about the various aspects of the game.
Week in the Crypto World
New BTC All-Time Highs
Crypto has risen to life in July! This is not really news by now, but hey, yesterday evening it was news to me that BTC made a new ATH, even though I saw a green market. It's good that alts follow. It would be better if they were more aggressive, they have a lot of lost ground to recover, but maybe it's still too soon for an "explosion". Either way, looks like some people got caught on the wrong foot in a major way. Not that I don't understand them, in this kind of a market. Nobody really knew what to expect next on the short term.
Sending Bitcoin without Internet? No, But...
A post by @meno alerted me to this piece of news. Well, I searched and found this particular article, but the initial information came from him.
Now... can you send and receive bitcoin without internet? Short answer: no. Long answer: no, but if you have a mesh network (of bluetooth-enabled devices), and the Bitchat app can find a route from your device to another that has access to the internet, then yes, you can. Otherwise, you can't. So, access to internet is required to send bitcoin, but potentially you can do it if you don't have internet access but someone close-by with the Bitchat app does.
You can still relay information in such a mesh network without access to the internet or even without cell signal. Still very powerful!

Coinbase mesh, what that would mean?
From what I know, Hive having support for that API would be a necessary, but who knows if sufficient step to get listed on Coinbase.
Listed on coinbase would be good for exposition too
Yeah, I think we've been trying to get there for a while...
I’m keen to know more about the HTML components, any mention of other embeddable types such as for audio?
This is about Hive components that would be inserted in the HTML of pages of other websites. Since Hive doesn't support audio, only text, probably the answer is no to your interest in them.
But likely you understood embedded HTML components the other way around, from other sources onto Hive front ends. I don't know of any plans in that direction, but if there is demand, probably there will be a way.
The problem is that if the audio needs to be hosted to play, that's something I don't think you will find many willing to do it. Maybe on SPK Network, when it's ready, with a decentralized storage.
Update: Looks like SPK Network already supports audio. Check out via dlux.io -> IPFS Drive.

Thanks.
Getting Hive integrated with some big companies would be great. The technology is proven and the costs are minimal.
It would be... Maybe they see where the world is moving. Hopefully, they'll want to be associated with an entity "nobody" controls. The publicity and recognition that would bring us would be very valuable. But I have my doubts they'd want to do that at no advantage to them.

Hive nodes from phones? It sounds like the technology is getting better. Let's see how things go. It would be interesting to see Hive get listed on Coinbase.
That would be really powerful! And I believe it's doable. They've been optimized that code and its size for so long that it may actually fit on a dedicated phone.
Yep, that's seems like a long process, started already a long time ago. Not something easy for Hive to do, with a technology different from most things out there.
yup... BTC feels like it's on steroids. Hope to see this to HIVE in the near future.
thanks for compiling the news.

It will. But people need to have patience with the selling pressure, to give it time to reach nice prices.
