Week on Hive

In the Spotlight

Hive as an Open Database for... Video Summaries

@mightpossibly started a project in November that is able to summarize various types of video input (provided as links) in a number of replies to the comment invoking the service, on Hive.

I must say I noticed the !summarize [video-link] line a couple of times in threads (can be invoked from any front end), but haven't paid much attention at the time.

Well, we have more details now. Since the start of the project, the people who used the service have summarized over 25,000 videos, which are now on the Hive blockchain. That's a lot!

To use the service, one needs to subscribe to @mightpossibly on Inleo (costs 5 HBD per month). He needs to cover costs for the LLM service he uses to generate the summaries.

He was the guest of Matt and Dan for episode 120 of CTT, where all this was discussed, along with potential future developments and applications. Worth listening to the 1h podcast.

Speaking about CTT, they recorded another episode about Hive price action and futures listings shortly before that.

A New City in Nigeria Where SpendHBD Spreads

Ok... Looks like SpendHBD really works in Nigeria. Someone from the city of Uyo got mentored a few days ago in Aba and already got invited to a radio show in her own city and getting ready for a workshop for SpendHBD.

Speaking of Nigeria, here is the list of businesses listed on Distriator from there. Growing every week, especially in Aba.

What perhaps goes well for them is also the Ezabay exchange, which allows them to deposit and withdraw Naira, and buy HBD with it so that they can purchase in those stores and get the cashback. These are some of Ezabay's plans for 2025.

Some Good Points to Present to Shop Owners..

This short post on Offchain Luxembourg's account drives home some good points why shop owners should accept BTC or HBD as payments.

HivePosh Makes an Impact

Looks like HivePosh increasingly makes an impact on what posts get most views on Hive. Look here.

Note that doesn't necessarily mean trending on Hive, since trending is based on Hive rewards, not on views. To be honest, I don't think I'd want a trending page fully based on view count, since that can be manipulated (inflated) as well.

How Was 2024 Like on Hive?

A rather short year-in-review post for 2024 was made on the official Hive account, which included at the end the highlights of a number of people for Hive in 2024.

Inleo LEO Merchants - Pay Using Any Crypto, Settlements in HIVE and HBD

This is the new thing built by Inleo, and soon to be added to Inleo Premium, but technically it can be integrated by any business on Hive. It allows a business on Hive to accept any crypto listed on Maya/LeoDex and be paid in HIVE or HBD. Khal describes it in this video.

Inleo Collaborations, Target Achieved, and New Targets

Speaking of Inleo, they have crossed 13k monthly active users, which is huge given the previous size of active Hive users (about the same), and where they started from about 10x lower a few months ago. Dash integration definitely made the difference. They talk about this too during the Inleo AMA. Apparently, next year's target is 50k MAUs, and expecting other major collaborations. A new DHF proposal is expected as well. I also wonder if the collaborators would agree to pay for marketing kind of 50:50, the way Dash did, if I recall correctly from what Khal said at one point...

VIMM Development Update

VIMM published a development update for the recent core improvements, development being funded by the DHF.

A tool for identifying spam on Hive

@louis88 created a tool (two versions, one using HafSQL, the other not) that can be used to keep an eye on the activity of suspected accounts for signs of spam/plagiarism. Check this out!

The "First" AI Agent on Hive Needs Some Work

@therealwolf launched a simple version of an AI agent on Hive. Kind of dumb... the AI agent, if you ask me, but will low-scale AIs ever compete with corporate ones? Maybe if they take advantage of a decentralized infrastructure.

Waivio Recipes Tutorial

@cryptodive created a tutorial on how to use the recipe object in Waivio.

Games

Moonkarts Updates

Moonkarts had a number of updates. Among them, players can now transfer fuel between them, and leaderboard rewards are live! Information was posted in discord.

Crypto Shots Creates an Annual Recap

Check it out if you are interested. I actually looked at one of their gameplay recordings. If I were into shooting games, that would have been quite exciting, I think.

WOO Talks About 2025

... and tells us we should look forward to physical WOO TCG that includes exclusive Hive ad cards, expansion of the YT channel, updates to the autobattler, and WresleCon 2025.

Week in the Crypto World

AI Agents Will Continue to Gain Market Share from Meme Coins...

... says Dragonfly's managing partner. If this is true, which I tend to agree with (and like), this is important for people always looking for the meta in the market. I disagree that it will pass quickly, since AI agents have utility, and their reign is only at the beginning, but they will be affected by the bear market like everything in crypto. And yet, I haven't invested in any of them for now. 😀

It's amazing to see SpendHBD get more traction in new countries. I hope it helps HBD get the recognition it deserves.

I haven't heard anything about VIMM for quite a while, but I am glad to hear that they are still developing even if they need to rely on the DHF.

It's interesting to watch these local developments. While they don't bring huge numbers as digital strategies may do, they may create strong ties in local communities around HBD and Hive.

Yeah, they had a DHF proposal for a good while, but only pushed above the threshold after blocktrades voted on it.

I guess updates are necessary to keep players excited. I don't know what the situation is with the game, I don't play it, but I report when they publish stuff every once in a while.
