Week on Hive

16 of 28 tracked posts made it to this week's issue of the "Week on Hive" roundup.

In the Spotlight

@buttcoins' Hotel in Guatemala Integrates HBD in a Major Way

Summer is coming and with it tourism at the tropics must be flourishing. 😀

Did you know @buttcoins has a hotel in Guatemala? And he says his hotel has the highest hosting rate from from the whole country too, which is impressive.

He's been working with volunteer staff for years (who trade room and meals for their services), but now he wants to go one step higher, and connect his hotel to Hive.

How he intends to do that? Well, he wants to make it a hotel where one could pay with HBD. But that's more than adding a sticker on a wall and expecting tourists to install and understand how to use a mobile app.

What he wants is some Hivers to come over as receptionists on the same model as before, as volunteers. I don't see why it wouldn't work if someone (probably relatively close to the location, for airplane ticket reasons) wants a vacation in a tropical paradise without paying for meals or stay.

They would help tourists with HBD payments, and they don't need training in Hive themselves.

Regarding HBD payments, how would this work? Tourists would be offered Hive debit cards and instructed to load them up with HBD. With them, they can pay anything they consume within the hotel, cafes, etc. If they also post about it on Hive, they get the SpendHBD discounts.

Now, I know people don't necessarily hunt discounts when they arrive on vacation spots, but when they are offered, who will say no, right?

Then, people have time on vacation and they are relaxed. Sounds like the perfect time to check out Hive, doesn't it?

@buttcoins says that in full season, 10-30 guests are rotated daily at his hotel. That's a lot of people that can be exposed to Hive over time and maybe guided in-person, while having the time and a good state of mind to be receptive.

It seems to have the right ingredients to be successful for both the hotel and for Hive. Here are all the details. Good luck!

Marketing / Awareness / Branding / Meetings

Talent Land Center-Stage for Hive

On the events side, Talent Land was a huge focus these days and therefore we have plenty of coverage too (which isn't always the case with Hive's participation to events).

Here are some of them:

Do You Want to Share Hive Posts on Medium?

There is a proper way of doing it... Medium wants the story imported on their platform, but you can set a backlink to the original story (your Hive post). Here's a full guide on how to do it.

Governance / Development / Dapps / Education

Keychain Activated VSC Requests for Devs

In Keychain v.3.10 Beta, a series of VSC requests for devs were included. The post describes how they can be tested.

VSC Getting Ready to Launch Its Defi App This Week or the Next

If you haven't read this collection of Hive dev news shared on the new Hive News community this week, I want to draw attention to the updates from VSC there. After fixing some bugs, they are getting ready to launch their defi app this week or the next, and thereafter will be EVM wallet logins and smart contracts on the mainnet.

Better Hive Discovery Tool?

@friendlymoose is crowdfunding 100 HBD to fund the initial development of a better discovery tool for Hive. He already sent 37.6% of the funds from last week's post and needs the rest. Here are the details.

LeoDex Beta Testers Bounties?

I don't know if this is still going on, but Inleo was looking for testers for LeoDex and offered bounties.

More V4V.app and VSC Integration

@brianoflondon briefly talks about his current work involving mainly integration with VSC as an exchange for BTC/HIVE/HBD, when those features will become available on VSC. And a few other technical things, but you can read more in his post.

PWR Updates

PWR will no longer be soft-pegged to HIVE (anyone wanting out because of the sudden change in direction, they have the option to do it). Basically, for those who know the project, it will become a sort of SEED 2.0, but not focusing on airdrops on Maker DAO anymore (they appear to be dead now). Not everything was set in stone, but here's the full post.

Games

Moon Space Strategy Game Was Launched

Last week on Saturday, Moon was launched, thanks to @hivetrending and with the help of @ecoinstant. For those familiar, it is a fork of the defunct, but fun at its time, game St**mNova on the previous chain, and based on OGame. This is the announcement.

Holozing Changed Collection Rewards Allocations

To better incentivize those who helped the game more during this tough market conditions, Holozing increased the collection rewards for holding alpha vials by 2.5 times, as announced on discord. Likely people noticed this by now. If you have alpha vials, your regular claims increased, if you don't or your main rewards came from delegations, they have been adjusted down.

Conclave Arcana Presale Was Launched for Splinterlands. Details about Midnight Potions.

While it's going much slower than I expected in the first few days compared to the hype, I was right and most people focused the same way as I did on Alchemy packs. Of course, I wouldn't have minded if they focused on something else to increase my chances for a BF. 😁 But well...

At the time of writing, almost 35% of the presale Alchemy packs (at 12k DEC), almost 16% of the presale Standard packs (at 4k DEC), and about 15% of the presale Legendary packs (at 24k DEC) have been purchased.

This week were also published details about the Midnight Potions, which double the chances to find Black Foils in packs, and gives a direct utility to land in-game. The post describes the full process of producing midnight potions by land owners, which involve soulbound permits, mining aura in Aura Labs (same mining production as iron, with 100% boost on occupied and magical plots), and crafting (40 aura needed for 1 midnight potion). The potions can be sold on the non-card market, from where land or non-land owners can purchase them from.

Week in the Crypto World

72 Crypto ETFs Are Awaiting SEC Approval This Year

Maybe not all of them will be approved. But if a big part will, what will happen to the crypto market, at least in terms of prices? Read more.

Speaking of the new-found love between the American administration and crypto, have you heard that top holders of the TRUMP meme coin will have dinner with Trump? How is that for "utility" of one specific meme coin, lol. From what I hear (don't quote me on that, I don't have time to check if that's true) that happens before some big unlocks of Trump coin. If that's true, anyone sees a pattern here?

Supermarket Chain in Switzerland Starts Accepting BTC

That hits a little closer to home for me than South America or Africa... Sure, Switzerland is not in EU, so they don't have the MiCA regulations over there. And it is also more friendly to crypto than other places, although I heard it depends from place to place inside the country, how opened they are to it. Maybe @achim03 is interested in this.

A supermarket chain (Spar), with a network in other countries in Europe, accepting BTC in Zug, Switzerland, can be a big step forward for a wider adoption in Europe, among big retailers. Thanks @coldbeetrootsoup for sharing this news in their podcast.

I love that hotel things, bringing hive to real life is the best advertise that can be done tbh

If this one works out, it would be great advertising for Hive, and it matters the context too. It's one thing to corner someone who is busy to pitch them about Hive, another to talk to someone relaxed and maybe they even have plenty of time to pay attention to a flyer which otherwise would ignore in the stress of a regular day.

You're welcome! I hope it gets build. Hive needs better content discovery tools, even though things have improved compared to the first time I arrived onto the single platform at the time, over 7 years ago. Evolved, but not quickly or good enough compared to the speed of the world we live in.

It isn't called tropical paradise for no reason, right? 😀

I didn't know about that. Unfortunately Zug is quite far from my home but hopefully things will reach my region as well :-)

Maybe it's a pilot project and they'll extend it to other supermarkets in Switzerland.

The hotel idea sounds interesting, but I wonder whats in it for the hotel volunteers. It sounds like they solve their immediate living conditions, but it doesn't look like they have much room to move on in the future. It sounds like a model that wouldn't work in the US.

Perhaps. The idea is you have a free vacation (except traveling expenses). 25 hours of work per week is "slow" enough so that you can enjoy your stay too, especially when it comes to young people with fewer means and the desire to experiment.
