Week through Adrian's Lenses (10-16 February 2024)
This is the #58th edition of the "Week through Adrian's Lenses" weekly Hive and crypto news roundup.
Let's see what we have for this week.
Week on Hive
22 of 43 tracked posts made it to this week's issue of the "Week on Hive" roundup.
In the Spotlight
VIBES Music Contest "Week 1"
After two consecutive weeks in the spotlight, even if it had the potential for another highlighted news, I thought Splinterlands and Invenium should leave this spot for something else this week.
What stirred quite some interest this week and the week before was the VIBES music contest started by @lordbutterfly. I included it in the previous roundup, but maybe it wasn't sufficiently highlighted.
The contest is run with the intention to target X musicians, but that doesn't mean Hivers cannot join, and they have been participating.
What I missed the previous week is that there is a Vibes community where you can easily see entries in the contest as well. Check them out!
Week 1 of the contest will in fact begin on February 19th, but entries were accepted before that date, and I see there is some participation already and some very good entries. I'm curious how many of them came from X and how many are existing Hive users. And if they came from X, did they bring anyone else with them (community), as the organizers hoped? Maybe we will find some details, to the extent of possibilities, later on.
Anyway, nice contest! Good music always attracts!
Governance / Development / Dapps
HiveHub.dev Added Token Routes
Peak Open added Token Routes to HiveHub.dev, which should find the cheapest route to exchange from one token to another. They added hundreds of tokens and 15 locations, including chains, DEXs, CEXs, and swap sites. They have the option to exclude certain locations from appearing in routes, for example, if you can't use them.
I checked it out but haven't made any exchange yet. If all works well, it seems a more complete solution compared to the Swap option from Keychain.
Keychain 3.0 in Production
Keychain 3.0 is out of Beta and into production. It should be already updated, or in the next few hours for Chromium users, and in the next few days on Firefox.
The two major updates are:
- dark and light themes
- possibility of rearranging the order of accounts
There are also design updates.
Episode 100 of CTT & Playing Podcasts and Videos Offline in 3Speak
This week was episode 100 of CTT. Congratulations to them! For whatever reason, the episode is no longer on X Spaces. A pretty interesting episode, I might say. I listened to it entirely. Well-prepared guest! Here are some highlights of it.
After initially running into some issues with this, @sagarkothari88 seems to have found a solution for allowing 3Speak mobile app users to play podcasts and videos offline. About that and other updates in his 3Speak mobile app development update. If you prefer a post with screenshots instead of a pretty long video, here it is.
Have You Ever Used Hivesearcher?
That's a search engine for the Hive blockchain provided by the Ecency team. I used it in the past but haven't in a while, at least not directly (it is used by certain dApps as a service too). At the time I used it, I thought of it as the best search engine for Hive, by far. They recently created another guide for Hivesearcher. You should check it out, regardless of what front end you use.
Since we are at Ecency, I know I included a link to a podcast with a recent interview with @good-karma, but I'd also like to include his interview taken by Zoltan (@ph1102, at his first interview!), maybe a more applied discussion for Hivers than the previous one.
LeoNode Has HAFSQL
From this week's INLEO AMA, we found out that LeoNode has HAFSQL running. Khal seems very pleased by the possibilities opened by HAFSQL and I look forward to seeing them improve the UX and be at the foundation of new features. I believe I also heard something about Polls v. 2.0 fixed and relaunched at the same time.
Given the issues with HiveSQL, the INLEO team moved quickly to adopt what I believe is the better option. If you don't know about the issues with HiveSQL, I wrote this at the beginning of the week.
Games
Splinterlands Updates
SoulKeep Sold to the Original Developers
Splinterlands sold SoulKeep to the original developers, Double Coconut. Future development, maintenance, future sales, community management, and customer support will all be under Double Coconut. Splinterlands will help integrate the game on the Splinterlands platform.
In a way, this is good because SoulKeep has some perspectives. In another way, we haven't worked with Double Coconut before, so we'll have to see how they'll handle the game from more than the development side.
SPS Proposal for a New Burn Event
Splinterlands came out with a proposal for the SPS DAO, where the latter would hire the company to build and launch a new promo burn event, this time for cards, on top of DEC and vouchers.
Other Updates
The next airdrop card at the end of the next conflict has been revealed. About that, the burn event, SoulKeep sale, and other topics in this week's town hall.
This is more than another update, and I'm sure it will be quite impactful. Looks like Aggroed will appear in episode 3 of Killer Whales. Season 1 starts on March 11th, on AppleTV, which has a global audience of 500m. Note: Only available in a few countries, for now.
Holozing Updates
A series of updates came for Holozing as it is approaching the starter "packs" sales. We don't have a date yet, but we have a price: $20. Don't forget about healers, which will be sold separately! Here's a list of the recent relevant topics (I guess you can also take them from the feeds of acidyo and holozing):
- Some thoughts regarding Holozing as the organizer behind it
- More details about the starter pack items and creatures
- Achievements and Stats
- Items
Rise of the Pixels - Research Projects
RotP released first version of Research Projects, which was one of the major milestones on the beta roadmap for the game. Read about that here.
Meetings / Events / Communities
Hive Goes to School at INCES
A new place visited by the Hive Goes to School program. @danielvehe's notes on the type of high school they went to, how students reacted, what attracted them, and what they didn't seem interested in should be useful to someone who wants to onboard new users, especially youngsters, and every such initiative can learn from each other to improve the parts that seem to work better elsewhere or at least to understand why that happens.
Hive Cuba Meets Among Books...
Hive Cuba will meet at La Feria del Libro en La Habana (The Book Fair in Havana), tomorrow, February 17th. Details here.
... and Hive Sucre at the Festival
Hive Sucre had a small stand promoting Hive at a local festival in the touristic part of Cumaná. This is a short video from there.
Hive Goes to Paraguay...
... to participate in the Crypto Summit of Sur III, the most notable crypto-blockchain event in the area, held in Ciudad del Este, Paraguay, on February 20th. We will have a speaker there. That's what the announcement says, at least.
Week in the Crypto World
Uniswap V4 is Coming... in Q3
DEXs need another revolution, and they might have it. Check this out: "v4 will allow pools that natively support dynamic fees, add onchain limit orders, or act as a time-weighted average market maker (TWAMM) to spread out large orders over time". This will be possible through the so-called "hooks" that will be introduced in v4.
Some wonder if Uniswap will turn from protocol into platform with the changes in v4.
Well... the code is public. At least everybody else can copycat it. It's not like it's the first time when Uniswap innovations were copied.
Gold ETFs Lose Funds While Bitcoin ETFs Are Like Magnets
The analyst cited in this article says it's not Bitcoin ETFs causing Gold ETFs to bleed out, but rather the FOMO sentiment in the equity market. That may be true or not, but one can see the contrast and you can't stop speculations and likely some gloating...

Thanks for the roundup! Lots of cool things happening right now on chain.
That's true! Plenty of things happening everywhere, and we are only aware of a part of them.
Exactly we know just little bit
Thanks for the mention and for this week's recap!!!
It was fun interviewing @good-karma and I hope we will repeat it in the future too! Maybe I'm biased, but it was a show full of good information, and looking inside "his head"... I hope that the audience can better understand his visions for Ecency and HIVE in general!
I like interviews that go more in-depth. They may not be the best for attracting new users (a different kind of interview is needed for that purpose), but for us who know a little bit more about Hive or the topic, they are better.
Thank you very much for the summary or update
I really appreciate every bit of the information

It looks like a lot happened. I didn't realize they would sell SoulForge but I guess it does mean that they can focus on Splinterlands. Then again, I wonder if it will affect anything like the SPS people get for keeping their nightmare packs.
There were a lot of big news huh. Hivehub is pretty interesting. I hope they can also do the conversion in the future. The SPL updates are plentiful. SK finally getting some meaningful news, Ranked system update, and more exposure to SPL and Hive because of Aggro.
Thank you for your update @gadrian I need to catch up on your articles. I've had a lot going on personally. There are a lot of good things to read here. Have a nice week! Barb #ctp
That's ok, Barb. Take your time! Life matters come first.
Thank you @gadrian 😊
