There Is Plenty of Strategy in SoulKeep
My first week's results in SoulKeep were rather disappointing, despite liking the game.
I haven't won any prizes in tournaments yet, but yesterday showed me that I was on a very good track. I just didn't want to pay for a 3rd attempt while not earning anything yet. Haven't played every day of the week, nor did I have time to focus seriously on the game, but I can say I learned a lot since the beginnings.
Today I will most likely win one of the leaderboard SPS rewards from the free attempt, and I won't play again unless I feel I'm in any danger of going out of the rewarded zone.
At the top, the tournament is fierce, with players using every trick up their sleeves to score as high as possible, while losing as fewer hearts as possible, or maybe even better than that. In fact, this might be one trick to have super-high scores, but I'm not saying anything else because I haven't even tried it myself yet. 😄 That may be enough of a tip for some players to see if they can find a way to work with that info...
Something we need to be careful about is the type of attack... We might find a super-powerful tower that works and is very reliable... until it's not, because you'll have fiends with higher resistance to magic or huge health points.
I could, most likely, advance to League 3 using my current strategy without any issues.
I still have one map to go and stopped because 2 of my most important towers were on cooldown.
The question is: do I want to go to L3? Looks like L2 wasn't as bad as I thought, but it was until I completely changed my strategy. Basically, you can't stop hordes of fiends if all your towers fire to one target at a time, even if they have rapid fire.
I hear L3 can't be completed without a hero. I don't know if the one saying that referred to the solo mission or tournaments, or if it's true, but heroes are a rare commodity. Their price is into the hundreds of dollars and to rent one it's thousands of DEC per day. I dislike both options.
At zero mana cost and serious damage, heroes are definitely very powerful and can tip the scale at any point in a battle.

One thing I can clearly see in your article is that Double Coconut has designed a very good game that can stand on its own and get players to spend and engage even without cryptocurrency + NFT features. This is a great sign that mainstream users will have a great time with the game and become a part of HIVE (maybe even without realizing that HIVE exist).
I agree! They had the advantage of coming to the market a lot later and learning from the mistakes of others and seeing what worked and didn't work in the past.
I'm almost sure this game will be embraced by a different kind of gamers than Splinterlands, maybe even general population for the easy free levels. They'll still have to fix some bugs before many more join. Game breaking or freezing occasionally doesn't help with wider adoption (it happened to me twice yesterday).
This is one of the biggest reasons I was excited to see Soulkeep when it was announced. There are other blockchain gaming platforms focusing on multiple types of games. This diversification is a must for SPS to go head to head with GALA, IMX, BEAM etc. Soulkeep + Invennium is on the right track. I wish the development would happen faster. But that would cost a lot and we will have to wait to see the better parts of the bull market.
Yep, it takes time, and patience is scarce these days. But they seem on the right track...

It's almost guaranteed today will be the first win. And going forward, chances are I'll win more often.
Haven't played it yet brother but I absolutely agree, adjusting tactics can really turn the tide in tough battles. This is an epic game by all standards of Web 3 games
Web 3 games are changing. Old models don't work, so they either need to adapt or die. Newer games like Soulkeep started with already a different model, and I think that'll be good for its future.

Nothing to be scared about. You can play for free in the beginning (no packs, no cards, only the solo missions) until you start to better understand the game.
I wouldn't want to part with an asset and play a third time without winning anything myself. It's probably going to be very frustrating. If there's one thing I know about this game, people are going to be throwing everything they have into making sure they get the grand prize, its going to be really fierce. The guys at the top will probably get all the prize.
The good this is the leaderboard ranks that are rewarded are not fixed. It depends how many people play the game every day in tournaments. Half of them will get at least the minimum of SPS share. Of course, the more people are rewarded, the lower the SPS rewards for the accounts that are based on a percentage of top players.
Yep, regarding the attempts, at these SPS rewards, normally 4 attempts (including the free one) would be about breaking even. But that means to win every day you participate and pay for these extra attempts. Or you win big once or twice.
Either way, I didn't pay attention to how much I paid for tickets in my first week, but from now on I intend to slowly turn to profitability (or to play only the free parts). What I needed was to understand the game better, and I think I did that. A few hundred DEC is an ok price to pay for that.

It sounds like it's tough to get rewarded. Do you only get ranking rewards if you rank high enough? Does everyone else lower just earn nothing? I also don't know if I like them using SPS as a reward instead of their own tokens.
Ha ha, looks like when I was supposed to win for the first time there was a bug or something and no rewards were distributed!
Yes, only first 50% of the leaderboard gets SPS.
SPS rewards have been distributed to pack holders since the beginning. It's true, the idea was that some value would come back to SPS. And so far, they are burning DEC, which would only help SPS if DEC goes above peg, otherwise it doesn't, quite the opposite.
