Public Databases on Hive and Data Scarcity

One of the things I like the most at HiveFest conferences is concreteness: when something already implemented is presented which brings utility to Hive, sometimes in a way many people wouldn't have thought about, particularly if they haven't followed these developments.

Plans are good and necessary, but they are in the future. When you hear something like "we've already done this" or "we've launched it" or even "it's ready to be integrated", it's fantastic.

We had a few such cases during this year's Hivefest. More if we think about products that were launched since the last HiveFest and talked about briefly, but without going into details or making them the focus of the presentation.

Have you seen Wavio's presentation? If you haven't, @grampo made it easy for you, and included both his talk and the actual slides in a post.

Generated with Ideogram.

He presented at every Hivefest for some time now, and always comes up with something new from Wavio for HiveFest. I don't remember his early presentations, but I do remember the one from last year and this one. And not only does he present the new developments for the platform, he always includes concrete websites that use his platform in practice and you can see a lot of work has been put on the administration side to add products, or in this year's case, thousands of locations on the map for camping sites in the US or independent coffee shops. Distriator also uses Wavio's back-end.

And all this is on Hive. What is this? Useful data, even more than the software that manipulates it. This is a form of quality data for various niches.

And we know data is quickly becoming one of the most important commodities of the humanity. Bitcoin is scarce? So is data in a world where AIs are always hungry for more.

I wonder if there will come a time in the future where Hive financials will be backed by its data, to some degree, since we have all this data saved on chain and more generated all the time. It was a point Khal made in one of the panels, at least, to have as much data stored on chain as possible. True, he mentioned it in relation to increasing RC costs when there will be more demand, which would lead to a higher price for HIVE, organically.

Whatever it leads for the price of Hive to be higher, I’m surely going to support that move

Thanks, @gadrian! HiveFest really does have a special vibe—it’s a place where you can feel the energy and excitement about what’s being built on Hive. Presenting something fully operational to such an engaged audience is always a privilege. People at HiveFest aren’t just listening—they’re curious and ready to dive into the details, which makes sharing new projects even more rewarding.

And you’re spot on—there are so many projects coming to life on Waivio, from cooking and cat lovers to gardening and sports. Each of these communities is leveraging Hive’s decentralized data to create something valuable and rewarding for its users. It’s exciting to think about how all this data could eventually play a big role in Hive’s overall value. Looking forward to seeing where this all goes!

Thanks for dropping by and for the work you put into Wavio and to help some of the businesses using it as the back-end to understand how to best take advantage of the platform.

It is a symbiotic relationship, for sure. In a way, and you have mentioned in previous presentations, Wavio's social shops model takes advantage of the existing community on Hive and the storing capabilities of the chain, while every shop is able to leverage the communities, products and reviews of other shops. Hive benefits in multiple ways, from the businesses that may attract new users, a flow of capital, and the data that is stored that, as I mentioned in the post, becomes more and more valuable.

It's interesting to see what happens when people make things that are memorable. I think it's good to have more data and using that data to our advantage is the best thing projects can do. However, I do wonder if we can even process all that data as the amount can increase quite fast.

If WE can't - and it's indeed too much for us - software surely can. That's why even content discovery for human-readable content like posts becomes an issue for us.
