Last Chance to Buy Current Soulbound Set For Glint?
Today the Splinterlands season ended and a new one began. That means two things:
- the season Glint rewards are received
- the Glint Shop gets restocked, which means lower prices if you focus on one particular draw or chest
During the latest town hall, Matt said we should get ready for the next soulbound set and the option to unlock existing soulbound reward cards from the current set toward the beginning of August.
While the date wasn't clearly stated, I assumed it means this is the last chance to get the missing soulbound reward cards for Glint, before the set is switched.
So I tried my best with the legendary draws, even bought 2 cards from the 3rd batch which are more than twice as expensive as the 1st batch, to see how far I can get with this.
I am at 96%... Starting from 89%. So close and yet so far.
I managed to max out two more legendary reward cards during this attempt, namely
Aves Sturges (never played it yet)
and Musa Saline (played 8 days ago)
Let's see if the addition of Rust for the former and +1 to magic attack for the latter makes a difference for the gameplay.
I still have 2 legendary cards that I couldn't max out, and if this was the last chance to upgrade them for Glint, probably never will:
For Terraceous Hulk, I'm missing +1 melee attack (from 5 to 6), 1 extra health point (from 10 to 11) and 2 BCX to max it out. Last time I played it was 9 days ago.
For Iziar, I'm missing +1 magic attack (from 2 to 3), and 3 BCX to max it out. Last played 32 hours ago...
If, by any chance, we have another start of a season before the new set is introduced, then I'll attempt to max these two again. Otherwise, at over 56k Glint per legendary draw for batch 3, that's it for me.
Soulbound versus Tradable
As a gamer in the general sense of the word, soulbound is ok because it offers a sense of progression.
For gamers in Web 3 and especially those who have seen times when everything was tradable, soulbound rewards will never feel as good. I personally understand all the reasons regarding abuse, but hopefully the game will be able to attract players who are not as attached to the tradability of rewards.
I only have a few doubles (both GF and RF versions). and for me it will likely be a very tough sell paying DEC to unlock one of them either to sell or to use on land.
Another thing to remember is that, theoretically, locked soulbound reward cards have a value of zero in a player's card collection. It helps earning rewards, but when evaluating how much your collection is worth, soulbound cards are worth zero until they are unlocked (if they ever are).

How many days does a season last?
15 days, most times.
I'm sure the cards you purchased will be useful and give many times your investment next season. I wish you luck for the next season. Thanks for writing.
Yeah, we'll see how useful the two L4 legendaries will be compared to their L3 versions.
I used all my glint on legendary pulls today. I managed to max out Kulu Mastermind which was nice, I got several others to level 3. It's been hard getting the right cards on pulls lately especially Iziar which I got one today but it was GF so I couldn't level up my regular foil...
It's very true these cards are worthless like the Gladius cards unless you unlock them which is looking to be an expensive venture.
Kulu is a nice card, even at level 3 (I have it maxed though). I use it quite often.
Iziar would be nice at level 4 with its +1 to magic damage.
I'll wait to see the exact numbers, but paying the DEC to unlock them may not be worth it. If it isn't, I'll simply burn the version I don't need (likely the RF, since the GF gives some bonus when used in battles).
I was actually disappointed the Iziar flashed gold, I really wanted to level up my regular foil!

Yep, it happened to me once or twice, lol. Although, theoretically, that gives you one or more extra pull chances (depending on the batch) if you burn the GFL.
I think Royaleagle said in discord that the Reward cards will change after the Aug 15 EOS maintenance. As for the current SB reward cards, I believe they will be unlocked once the new ones are available, so you can maybe get the ones you're missing then. Although it might cost a lot to do so.
Thanks for the heads-up! So I have another season to attempt maxing out the remaining two cards. It would definitely cost a lot more to max them out once they are unlockable because they cost DEC for both buying the remaining BCX and to unlock your card (you can't combine a soulbound card with a tradable one).
You're welcome. Goodluck on the cards you're missing.

I'll have to use up my Glint later but I still haven't maxed out the current deck. However, given the limited time, I think that aiming for the rare cards seems like the best option for me. It's too bad that you didn't max out the legendary cards but maybe you might get an extra season.
Looks like there will be another season to attempt maxing them out. @outwars said in a comment that @royaleagle mentioned in discord they will be added after the Aug 15th EOS (in the next maintenance window after that date).
Yep. Here is the screenshot of the message in discord:
Thanks again!
When prices are low, it is a profitable time to buy things and hold for a while to make good profits.
Prices in the Glint shop aren't market driven, they are established by the team.
I have been struggling to complete my collection and I have burned many Cards to get their. I have been too lucky with some of the Cards such as Terraceous Hulk while not getting enough for others. This is one time I don't mind @splinterlands miss a deadline.
I suppose that's a great strategy! To have products users desire so much that they are happy when there's a delay in coming out with new products to replace the ones they want.
