Decoding the Streets (#16)

Despite my love for street art was born only a few years ago, I think we can all agree that this one existed for a long while now. It's true that, as a kid, most of the street art I could observe were some random words or names written in the artist's own style, making the letters even harder to understand anyway.

However, as time has passed and we got in the loop of constant evolution, the undecipherable letters slowly turned into objects, then into abstract work, and then into what we can call detailed stories shared through art, where words are not needed anymore.

While most of my previous editions shared with street art came with lots of interesting murals, this time I felt like turning back to the origins and seeking street art that shows exactly what I mentioned at the beginning of this post. Letters, words, but especially hidden messages that perhaps will never be truly discovered. This post is also going to take part in the CCC's Street Art Contest #235!

The first pick of this selection comes with lots of interesting elements mixed together but where brain is the single limit as a proper story for it, was never shared by the artist. It's not one of the oldest street arts we have in town so I am sure this happened on purpose, but makes it an even better time staring at it and trying to make a connection between all the elements. So what do you think is this mural's story?

Next up, we have another mural with no story shared for the audience, but which is a bit easier to understand as it was placed on the Faculty of Engineering so I'm assuming this is, in one way or another, it's connected with the studies undergoing beyond the painted wall.

Name: ORIGINI (2020)
Artists: ȘATRAN, BIEX & ANA GABRIELA
Location: Strada Emil Cioran 4, Sibiu 550025, România

The 3rd mural of this post comes with a Wild Style of sharing street art where the wording is the closest it can get to all the art you can find online when looking for this kind of concept. However, while the text is hard to read, what caught my attention the most was the mix of vivid colours placed in a communist neighbourhood where locals were used to seeing only grey and white in terms of buildings.

Name: Re:Think (2021)
Artists: POPESCU
Location: Str. Electricienilor 1, Sibiu 550311, România

The 4th street art comes, again, with no story. What a surprise, right? So while in the rest of the murals I could figure out some letters, objects or even words, this time is one of the rare moments when I honestly can't understand anything from the mural. The main element seems like a scissor but who can really guarantee that?

Name: OBJECTS IN ABSTRACT LANDSCAPE (2022)
Artists: HNRX
Location: Aleea Buia, Sibiu, România

Last but not least, we have one of the murals that stirred my curiosity the least, maybe also because of slowly fading away after 10 years since it was added to the walls. However, this is the single moment from this post where an actual story was shared as to what was the purpose behind it when the artist started to spray. Thus, he suggests, and I can 100% approve of his sayings, life often puts you in situations where no words can save you but maybe an abstract shape, a smile or an emotion. So he used this building as his own sketch of exploring new shapes and creating new letters and objects that could be used to fill the empty space from a conversation.
