Music is popularly used in schools all around the world. Using music in school has been proven to help students. Here in my country, Nigeria, music is mostly used in school to teach young children languages, to improve their vocabulary, to improve their spelling skills, and to help them succeed in life.
Students naturally love music, as long as the teacher is using the right music in the classroom, student are ready to pay more attention and learn language in a fun way. When a teacher uses song to teach in the classroom, it creates a positive atmosphere, increases engagement, enjoyment, and participation, and improves the memory of the students.
Here, I present to you some of the reasons why music is so important in school.
Music improves academic performance: Most teachers involve music in the way they teach because students can grasp things faster and more quickly when taught with song or rhyme. Involving music in teaching the student can help to improve their memory and increase their academic outcomes because children that are mostly taught with rhyme and song in school always perform better than those students who aren't taught with music.
Music creates a positive atmosphere: music is fun, and students find it more exciting to learn with music. Learning with music can improve learning and create a positive learning environment where students can flourish. Using songs to teach students in school can create a positive classroom environment that can benefit both the teacher and the students. A positive classroom environment can help reduce stress for teachers and end up putting a smile on their faces. It can also improve engagement, attention, and distractions in students. Incorporating music into teaching in school can create a positive atmosphere that helps the students achieve their goals.
Music can be used to learn languages: Music is one of the best ways to learn languages. Teachers mostly use music to teach language in school. Using music to teach makes it easier for a student to learn new words. Teaching young children a new language can be difficult at first, but using songs to teach in school can help students grasp the spoken language more quickly. Music can also help students improve their learning skills, listening skills, vocabulary skills, and reading skills.
Music helps students to improve teamwork: A time always comes in school where students are always given a chance to learn musical instruments together and participate in school programs together. Working or playing music together is a wonderful way to promote teamwork and cooperation.
Other benefits of music in school are as follows; Music helps to reduce stress, music is a course of study in school, music can also boost student self-confidence. Not only that, but for some students, singing, playing, and writing music is the best way for them to express themselves, and be creative.
