How I Care For Myself During The Delicate Time ||| #LOH Contest #155
We Women have multiple phases in our lives where we go through hormonal imbalance, like monthly menstruation, pregnancy, and menopause. Not only our physical but our mental health also gets impacted. Share with us, how you take care of these sensitive times and take care of your physical and mental health.
Growing up as a young girl, and like some other women, pains, mood swings, and fatigue are things I struggled with during my menstrual periods.
It was so bad that sometimes I called In sick from my routine such as work. But with time I'm lucky to have found a way to take care of myself, my mental and physical health during this delicate Time.
Before this, usually, once my menstrual period was in a few days, I would no longer be my normal self. I will feel so many unpalatable emotions, such as general weakness of the body, being easily irritated, stomach pains, pimples, and swelling face.
My initial thought was that taking pain relief , such as paracetamol could help but it never did until I started making adjustments to the things I consumed.
Along the line, I discovered that my body system does not act well when I consume sugar, most especially when putting sugar directly inside my tea or taking soft drinks.
I replaced the sugar inside my tea with honey. And my soft drink intake to fresh homemade fruit drinks.
I also exercise when my period date is close by and during. All of these help stop all my symptoms except for the mood swings during my period. Which lasted until after my pregnancy over a year ago.
I have heard in the past that after the first pregnancy, most menstrual symptoms are likely to stop, and I was looking forward to mine stopping after I gave birth and I'm super glad it did.
Another thing that helps me through the menstruation period is taking garlic. For some years now I have incorporated garlic into my food. Like soups, and jollof rice. Etc.
I will swallow about four cloves of garlic three to four times a week. Of course, I choose to swallow it instead of chewing to prevent my mouth from smelling when I speaks and i discovered that it works almost the same.
Aside from helping relieve my painful menstrual period, this has helped boost my general immune system in such a great way that I hardly fall sick these days , unlike before when I fell sick regularly.
Kindly note that, like every other thing garlic should be taken in moderation
Taking lots of fruits and vegetables has been helpful to me during this period as they contain nutrients that help boost my immune system.
And like every other day, I always make sure I take an adequate amount of water to balance my system.
When it is my menstrual period, I try to rest as much as possible by not attending to any difficult task of mine. Before that, time I tried to clear any too much effort demanding tasks I have so that I wouldn't be under much stress when it started. This has helped me stay balanced and save my energy during my period.
I try to exercise, even though I usually feel lazy when I'm menstruating but when I try to just get up to shake and stretch myself, it can be very rewarding and my whole body will feel much more alive and energized afterward.

Thanks for sharing your experience and advices 😘. Thanks to the gym, my period last 3 days (yes, I work out while I have my period), but I still feel a lot of pain the first 2 days 😢. Maintaining a healthy diet is very important during these times. Garlic is a good medicinal herb but should be only taken when necessary else excess garlic intake can also have it's own complications.
