A Typical Day In A Night Owl's Life

"There is a time for many words, and there is also a time for sleep."

"The best bridge between despair and hope is a good night's sleep." "Sleep not only rights the wrong of prolonged wakefulness but, at a neurocognitive level, it moves you beyond where you were before you took a nap." "Sleep is not an optional lifestyle luxury. Sleep is a non-negotiable biological necessity."

It is something we all have in common, no matter who we are.

And for our overall well-being, we need to have enough sleeping time.

I'm a typical night owl type. At least I used to have the chance to be. I have tried the early to bed, early to raise things in the past but it never worked best for me.

There is something about the nighttime, when everyone has gone to bed and probably in the dreamland, and I'm left with the pure silence of the night. I could be up all night, sometimes as late as 12 am to 4 am. This is the time I'm mostly very creative and full of energy. My most creative thoughts and ideas happen at this moment. If it's up to me I could simply switch night times for day times. This is why I took my afternoon naps very seriously to make up for the sleep. I don't ever joke with it. Because that is when I could re-energize my body system and refresh.

Before I became a mom, I used to be a sleepyhead part of the afternoon, and I didn't even feel bothered because I knew It was at night that I got things done better. Especially things that have to do with my creative thinking.

Does your sleep schedule ever clash with the schedules of others? How do you manage these differences?

My husband is an early-to-bed and early-to-raise kind of person, and that works perfectly for me but When you're a parent, especially a mom with a little kid/kids, your sleeping time would mostly be determined by those little angels. They could easily dictate when and how long you can sleep.

Like yesterday afternoon, I was just able to doze off when my baby woke up from his nap, he called out for me and immediately jumped on my body and that was all for me.

This has been my reality of late. I could no longer practice my night owl ways like I used to because my afternoon is always so occupied with activities that I hardly have the luxury of taking a good nap.

Sometimes as early as 9 pm I'm already lying on my bed with a sleepy eye if not already asleep.

How do I balance this? How do I still manage to get a good sleep time?

I have become more intentional about my afternoon naps, by letting go of unimportant tasks or activities in a place for a good nap. For instance, I would choose to sleep instead of watching a movie like I would do in the past. This helps me to relax more and feel energized.

If my baby is sleeping, sometimes I try to follow suit because I know that once he is awake I might never get a chance to take a nap for that day, though sometimes I have something very important and urgent that needs my attention, then I would have to forgo the nap.

I have limited my staying up late at night for more sleeping time. Though sometimes I still feel like I'm sleep-deprived, this is how I'm trying to keep things in balance for now, and I hope that as the little man of the house grows and becomes more independent I might have a little bit more of a sleeping time or maybe not.

This is my entry into this week's #hiveghana engagement topics.

I’m sorry but your baby took all my attention
Wow he’s so so cute🥰🥰🥰

Anyway I think it’s really fascinating how everything including your sleep pattern changes when you get a baby

It’s really important that you have replaced things you find unnecessary with naps. That’s a really good way of recharging your energy for whatever you have ahead.

You gerrit. Ideas flows in the silence and that is at night when everywhere is so calm. This is the most times I find ideas rolling in. Sometimes I can just wake up at the middle of the night and start writing with pure ideas flowing through.
Sometimes too, I can be a night owl and on other days, I sleep early, it depends on how the day is for me or what I am aiming for the next day.
Sleep is good for the health and we must not deprive ourselves of it.

Oh, kids determine when a mom sleeps and that's so true, I also get creative at that time but whenever I do not have enough sleep, I wake up feeling tired and exhausted.

Sleep has a way of replenishing our lost strength.

I popped in from Dreemport because I am an awesome #dreemerforlife.

Our boy has really distorted your sleeping pattern. Once awake, the shout of mam-ma, mam-ma rents the air. He doesn't want anyone sleeping while he is awake. The chairman of the house. Well done for the job.

When kids run a temperature, it makes them restless and gummy, a parent's job is not an easy one truly.
