Dunes and the beach

Today was a nice autumn day here in The Netherlands. Yes, it was quite windy, but it wasn't raining and there even was a bit of sun. As we have the birthday of my mother in law, and we will be indoors for the rest of the day, my wife and I decided to go for a walk. And what better place to go than the dunes and the beach.
It's only a 15 minute drive by car for us and the perfect spot to get some fresh air.
The dunes are a natural barrier against the sea, protecting the low-lying land from flooding. It's an area where no cars are allowed. There is a cycling path along the coast and there are many walking paths. There is even an area where you can wander wherever you want without following trails. And that is where we started.

We parked the car at a parking place near the beach and went into the dunes. Since we were not the only ones we decided to go off route first.

The nice part of going off route is that you don't see that many other people, but walking there is a bit harder. There are a lot of sand dunes in the area. They look nice, but climbing up and down through the sand dunes is quite tough. After a kilometer or two we decided to head back to the paved path and in the direction of the beach.

When walking on top of the dunes you can really feel the wind. But when we walked in the shelter of a dune hollow, it suddenly felt warm again. Especially when the sun peaked through the clouds.

The last row of dunes near the beach are the highest. They protect our country from the sea. As you might know, a large part of the Netherlands is below sea level. On a couple of spots along the coast line there are entries to the beach. It's quite a tough climb through the loose sand, but you get a nice view. Both the seaside view as inland.

At the beach there is totally no protection against the wind. The sea was quite rough and that results in quite some noise. I tried to capture the fine sand that is blown over the beach> I don't think you can really spot it in the photos below.
Sometimes when it really storms you even can get sand in your eyes, but luckily today it was near the ground.

It seems that we were the only ones at the beach, but that isn't true. I just mostly don't like people in my photographs. There were quite a few people that had the same idea as we had.
What I like about the sea is that you have such a wide view.

I hope you liked my photo shoot of the dunes and the beach.

Such a beautiful area, walking on sand even onthe flat is so much harder than walking on sidewalks or grass but the fresh air and good exercise make sit all worth while

Have a great day

Those dunes remind me a lot of a state in Venezuela called Falcon, where I used to go a lot as a kid and always walked on the dunes and also the beaches nearby. Greetings !

I think a lot of dunes all over the world are quite similar, don't they?
Nice that my photos bring back memories!

I don't remember when I was so lucky with the weather in The Netherlands 😊 My in-laws live there, so we visit maybe 4-5 times a year, but it is always cloudy and raining. It's nice to see that you can have blue skies too 😁

Great photos! The wind on the beach can be ruthless and those tiny sand particles fly all around. It's the best when you were lenses and the sand gets under them - a treat! 😂
