An evening walk through some local parks and the polder during sunset

Last week I had a bit of a setback with my groin injury.
Things were going pretty well for a while. I could ride my bicycle again and even went for a run a couple of times.
But earlier this week the injury flared up again. Not as bad as in the beginning, but still annoying.
At first I was pretty frustrated, but later I decided to just focus on the things I still can do instead of the things I can't at the moment.
And since it was nice and sunny, I went for a long walk right before sunset.

It was around 8PM in the evening and the sun was already low in the sky. I started my walk through a local park. The park is lushful and green. It has been quite warm and sunny in the past weeks, so the cow parsley has grown quite a bit.

After leaving the park I decided to walk towards a so-called polder area. It's a nice place with a few bodies of water and a lot of birds. To get there I had to cross some railroad tracks via this tunnel. Quite a contrast with the nature I had just walked in.

At the entrance of the area is an old windmll. I really liked this view with the setting sun, the windmill and its reflection and the reed in the front.

There weren’t many people around at the time I made my walk. It could be because it was already late, but also because there are many geese in the area. More about that later in this blog.

The sun already reached the horizon, so I had to increase my pace a bit. It doesn't get really dark immediately, but it does get a bit colder too near the lake.

And there were the first geese; two parents with two goslings. I came across quite a lof of them during my walk. They are very protective. The parents were hissing when I came to close to their offspring in their eyes. I walked around it in a wide arc.

The golden hour was already turning into the blue hour. The sky was already starting to turn from a bit orange/yellowish into a darker blue. As I walked there a lot of noise making geese flow over.

I told you there were a lot of geese. And by that I really mean a lot! There are literally hundreds of them in the area. When I tried to finish my round a group of them were blocking my path. I had to wait for a few minutes before I could pass.

When I finished my round the sun was completely down. I continued my walk in a more urban area and went back home. The walk not only gave me some nice pictures, but also improved my mood.

Thanks for visiting my blog!

You really had a great long work despite the fact that you had an injury. The pictures you took are cool, I must say. I must commend your tenacity for still riding the bicycle without thinking of the injury you sustained.

That's too bad about your groin injury flaring up again... it must be difficult not to be able to do one of your favorite things, cycling... but it's nice that you're taking it positively. It was an awesome time to just take it slow and go for a walk.

Also, 8 PM in your country is so bright! It always amazes me because my place is already dark at 6 PM... XD Lovely photos as always, especially the setting sun by the lake. <3

Take care and get better soon! ^^

I always try to stay positive. There are always way worse things that can happen. And these walks really do good.

I love it thet it is light on the evening. The day will get longer until the 21st of june. The sun will set around 10 PM then.

That's true... Looking at the brighter side of things makes us feel better. :)

Oh wow... That's interesting. I'd stay up even longer if that were the case in my country. XD

OMG!... what amazing postcard @friendlymoose friend!

image.png

This one has it all!... Supreme backlighting, a defiantly placed horizon at mid-height, the reflection of the imposing mill in the water in the right third, the delightful vanishing point created by the water in the left channel, the growing grass and the sunlight beam beautifully emerging from a delicately captured sun in the left third!... It's a picture to teach landscape photographers and tell them how to compose and how to use the light and every element present!.... A big applause for you!... 😀📷💯👏

PS: I hope your recovery from the groin injury will be complete soon!... In the meantime, please keep doing these light walks and taking those wonderful photos to share! 🙂🙏

Yes!... Sometimes everything seems to conspire for a photographer to achieve an exceptionally eloquent image like this!...

And then the photographer translates the wonder of the event and the result is definitive and beautiful like this one

Watch out with the geese around, those guys can be really unpredictable!

Yeah this weekend has been fantastic for the late evening walks indeed, had a couple of them here myself and enjoyed every second of them :)

Oe those windmills, we dont have them enough here in the south. Stunning!

I'm more afraid of swans. Geese often only hiss. And blaffende honden bijten niet 😃

We have plenty of windmills here in the west. The south? Limburg or Brabant?

Each photograph has a special angel. Finally, the afternoon light created the ideal atmosphere for each one. I am glad and thankful that you decided to capture each of these scenes. My favorite is the one of the mill, it's a beautiful composition, with the right light at the right time.
