Staying Over At A Friend's Apartment Tomorrow Night

Night shifts are finally over (for now)!

Time to transition back to days.

My last work night was not as difficult as I had anticipated, so that was nice. Certainly, I've had more difficult ones. Nurses calling for patients from the ED every 5 minutes for hours on end (usually about not very urgent matters) were incredibly annoying while we were dealing with actual ill patients, one being very rude to us, but that's par for the course. A terrible work environment breeds poor behavior, and encourages nasty people to work there while chasing away the good ones. I, for one, certainly won't be sticking around.

Tomorrow I'll be staying with a friend overnight - in fact, this is probably the second time I've ever done so in my life. It's not really going to be a slumber party; we both have to go to work the next day lol! At any rate, this time, I'm staying over out of necessity. I won't go into the details out of respect for my family member, but the reasoning is very justified and could otherwise lead to stinky consequences lol.

This friend happens to be a work colleague whom I've known since mid-2021. It's nice to have someone reliable for the times when it's needed, and this was the only time I've ever asked him for such a favor. I'm not shy about asking him for this favor this time because I've actually helped him with some work situations before (i.e. taking shifts so he could do something personal). I'd be far shyer asking someone else.

On Thursday, I'll be picking my Mom up from a procedure. I pray that it will go fine. I'll have to leave work a little bit early to do this, so hopefully this can be arranged with my supervisors. With how much time I've contributed to help them these past 2 weeks, they better not make a big fuss out of this!

I have a feeling the logistics are going to difficult, however. We've reached the highest patient census that we've ever had, and everyone is being taken out of their electives to provide care for these extra patients. It's disruptive to our education and contributes to burnout. It happens every year around this time, and the hospital never sufficiently prepares for it, and the numbers worsen every single year. I'm glad I'll be leaving this place in June.

My next workplace, wherever it may be, will also have its unforeseen difficulties, but I'm quite certain I'll be moving on to greener pastures. The dysfunction can't get much worse than this.

Definitely, even a couple of hours just to watch a movie would be great. Life hasn't been all that fun recently.
