Retirement was actually introduced quite recently (late 19th century), so in the history of humanity, it's a very new concept. Its implementation was a design of our expanding lifespan, rather than its exclusion being a design to hold us back.

It's a carrot on a stick 😔
In a sense, it is - but achievable if we create a strategy and stick to it for a long time. Most people don't educate themselves enough to get to that point, or otherwise lack the discipline.
It’s a fair observation. Retirement as we know it was quickly adapted to longer lifespans, but that doesn’t mean it's an all‑inclusive solution. Should we reimagine these later life years?
