Urhobo wado!, Crazy Orhiboto Dish
When I saw this Naija weekly prompt, I definitely do not really get why people dislike any food in this world.
I mean even if the food doesn't taste good or isn't pleasant to behold, we’ll try to eat it anyway so as not to die of starvation.
Am a lover of food, literally I can eat anything anywhere I find myself, even in the evil forest.
Africa has been one of the countries that is blessed with the most delicious food, each tribe preferable has their own native food. I actually don't normally eat my tribe's food, I mean I can't literally remember the last time I ate it.
Am an Urhobo girl, UROHBO WADO!
Urohbo has a lot of crazy dishes and I've eaten just a few. But there is this particular one I dislike so much.
Though have eaten it just once but the moment i tasted it that was the end,

It's Called Orhiboto. Orhiboto is an Urhobo dish prepared without fire, yap! It's surprising to know that there are still some dishes out there that can be prepared without heat.
I dislike this dish for a lot of reasons, first it's ugly, the dish isn't even sexy to begin with, especially when it's being prepared, plus the name not being attractive made it all worse, but with all of this you may wonder if it's delicious or not.
This soup is prepared with Erhei, one of the native spices in Urhobo. But it can be found everywhere.

Its prepared with the ingredients;
Erhei
Dry pepper
Crayfish
Fish: preferably bonga fish
Salt
Maggi
Water
Preparation:
Now this is one of the easiest, quickest and cheapest soup i’ve ever seen prepared
First you put crayfish on the frypan and you fry it just like that without groundnut oil without nothing. You'll let it dry a little then grind the dry pepper, the Erhei and crayfish together
Now for the bonga fish you'll have to roast it separately. After that you add the mixture of the grinded pepper, the crayfish and Erhei in a plate or Molter, add little water, add the salt and maggie you need to your taste, add the bonga fish and mix together. There you have your orhiboto
Funny right? Definitely the soup won't be hot since it's not prepared with fire. And there is a saying that we naija people use to say: “ As He de hot he de sweet”.
Anyways this dish can be served with basically Eba, yam, or even plantain. I’ve eaten it with yam once and I just managed to swallow it so that hunger will not kill me.
The fact that this dish ain't sexy, plus the way it's being prepared, it's not cooked with heat so nothing is gonna kill off the bacteria in those ingredients. It may taste better and sweet for some but for me it didn't.
The good part however is, this dish is a life saver for most Nigeria urhobo students in the university, they prepare this dish alot when there are no funds to sponsor a better dish. In other words we naija call this period “SAPA '', When there is sapa then this dish can come in handy.
Till we read again. Kudos.

I've heard a lot about this particular kind of soup though, that's prepared without fire. I would love to try too
This support is also called mortar soup but I prepare it with hot water o instaed of cold water. This soup only comes in handy when there is left over eba and no soup 😆😆 the eba must not waste o
The name of the soup sounds tempting, I would love to have a taste, the only thing I am not pleased with is the fact that it is not prepared on fire, I barely eat cold food.
Yahh exactly haven't u heard of this what tribe are u?
I am Eggon.. I am sure you've not heard of it before
I love my soup hot, I'll definitely put it on fire ohhh.
Besides, it doesn't look bad; it looks like the type of soup some of my seniors and mates in secondary school used to prepare in the hostel, but they use sardine instead and then eat with eba. Some will steam it briefly using a hot iron.
