Hi guys, hope you all had a great day. For me here, it's been raining cats and dogs nonstop, it's so cold outside.

I thought to drop a thought for today's thoughtful Thursday. Correcting someone is not a bad thing, it's in short one of the best things that could happen to the person being corrected, as they would understand that what they did wasn't the best and if they continued that way, it might not like the result at the long run.

On the other hand, I think most of us should master or even learn the act of correcting in kindness and not demeaning the other person just because you're correcting them.

So something happened yesterday that got me thinking. There is this intern who works at my organization, she joins the staff bus that goes my way, so I've had some interactions with her, although I don't really know her that much. She wore particular clothe that weren't appropriate for a workplace, according to our organization's policy, as her shoulders and her arms were outside, only covered by a small piece of lace.

The moment she was about to enter the boss, one of my colleagues shouted, where are you going dressed like this, but someone else asked that she come in, and as soon as she sat, some said she couldn't go to the office this way, that she would have to go back home, others asked that she find a scarf and cover-up.

Everyone on the bus had something to say, some said she was dressed indecently, others said there wasn't any adult at home when she left hence the reason she came out that way, some even compared her with their children at home, she was the subject of discussion throughout the ride to work.

I wasn't against them reprimanding her, but I was against how they did, I felt like they would have just told her to go home and change into something more appropriate rather than saying all manner of things about her.

When correcting someone, we should remember that words have power. By using your words rightly, you can create a positive and supportive work environment, where everyone feels valued and encouraged and even comfortable to grow.

Let's learn to be kind with our words because you don't know what the next person might be dealing with, especially now with the prevalence of depression and other mental health issues, most people might be going through a lot mentally, and one unkind word could send them spiraling to their worst or even triggering them to do what they aren't supposed to do.

I hope the next you want to correct someone, the least you can do is be a little kind with your words.

Thank you for stopping by
