Who would I choose?

When I first saw this post, what came to my mind was God, because I believe He’s the only true protector that we have. The word of God assures us in Psalm 91:11 — “For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways.” That is the greatest assurance of protection anyone can have. It does not matter who we have as a rescuer but God is the only protector.

But on the other hand, since the topic says to pick a fictional character to rescue me, I have three fictional characters in mind against this topic. Firstly, I can think of Agemo, one of the revered gods in Yoruba land. Agemo is a human in disguise, fortified with charms and others. The sight of Agemo is so terrifying that people dare not look upon it carelessly. Now imagine Agemo appearing in the den of kidnappers, with all its fearsome glory and dreadful aura. I bet they won’t take a second before they vanish into thin air, completely forgetting that they even had someone in captivity.

Another fictional character I can think of is Madam Koi-Koi, one of the scariest fictional characters in my land. Madam Koi-Koi is said to be the ghost of a woman who wears red high heels, forever roaming in search of someone to haunt in the school corridors. Who is not afraid of ghosts? The sound of her shoes, “Koi… Koi…” echoing in the dark, makes even the bravest students freeze in terror. If Madam Koi-Koi were to come to my rescue, I am certain the kidnappers would surrender immediately or run away without looking back. Her presence alone is enough to scatter even the courageous heart; she scares you. I bet it, she will go the extra mile to get the job done.

And then, there is Egbere (Eleni Egbere), another chilling figure in Nigerian folklore. Egbere is said to lure people away with its haunting cries. The sound is so convincing and sorrowful that anyone who hears it is drawn to follow. But the truth is, once you follow that cry, you are lost forever. Now picture this, my kidnappers, in the dead of night around 3 a.m., hearing the cry of what they think is a helpless baby in the bush. Their greed or curiosity would push them to chase after it, only to realize too late that the sound was not human at all. Egbere would use its terrifying cry to scatter them and rescue me from their hands.

In short, while I know God is my ultimate protector, if I had to choose a fictional rescuer, these fearsome beings, Madam Koi-Koi, Agemo, and Egbere would be more than enough to make my kidnappers disappear without a trace and that's according to the topic of the day but the only ONE liable to rescue is God, the Omnipresence.
