Not living in my dreams
As I grew up, like many children do, I had different dreams and career paths until I understood them very well. So, I dreamt of becoming an actress; the way I used to see American, Filipino, Korean, and Nigerian movies speak confidently, sharply, and with flair inspired me a lot. I wanted to be seen on TV worldwide and known to be a good actress😁Oh, I admired them so much! What did I know? Probably not the hidden truth about most of them, such as family life. My perspective shifted one fateful day when a cousin poisoned my mind after watching a movie where they smooched and kissed each other roughly as if it were in real life. Then, he asked, “Is this what you choose as a career? To be engaged in such a mess?” It shook my desire, so that I had to change my mind without blinking twice.
I chose another dream: to be a pharmacist, fueled by a passion for helping others, to ensure their well-being, but life often takes unexpected turns. When Dad passed away, the day before my exam, I was too emotional to write, so I missed the date and waited another year before I could write my JAMB. But the funny part is when the dream shifted with too much load; my mother’s strength could not carry the burden alone, providing for my siblings and me with the little penny she was earning from the government. It wasn't enough, so I sought advice from my loved ones to change my course, and I did.
So, from my initial dream, I migrated to pursue a career in Computer Science, driven by a passion for banking, but the search for banking jobs yielded no results. Then I turned to teach, A path I never dreamed of, yet circumstances pushed me forward, chasing desires that arose from the need for survival. Teaching is not any part of my list of dreams at all. If you know, you know🤔
Yes, if I have the chance again to become a pharmacist, this time I won’t let it slip away, I’m still seeking the avenue to nurture and pursue that dream, holding tight to the belief that dreams are never truly lost, just waiting for the right moment to arise. I still have hopes of living in my dream.
Anytime, I have the opportunity to leave this country for a better place where dreams won't be shattered, I will pursue my pharmacy journey to become a better version of myself. This is to say if a classmate can leave Biology to pursue her dream of becoming a Radiologist when she got to the United States, what's stopping me? She started her degree all over again and today, she is living in her dreams.
Never say never because it is never too late to begin again.
