Moderation is required

Homework is a task given to students by their teachers to be done at home. Homework can be given to students for many reasons.

For students and parents, get into the habit of doing something every evening related to school so that it won’t be a big change when they get older and more is expected of them. Students need to be taught how to be responsible for their own work and for bringing it to and from school, and submitting it every day, and homework is a way to teach them that.

Homework also reminds them of what they learned that day in class and lets them have one more short practice of the skill before bed. That is, it's a way to continue from where the teacher stops. Play and family time are also important, and it will be unfair to take over that time, but homework helps students to learn how to be responsible and to have a little extra practice.

Nothing comes between them when it comes to his homework

I happen to be a teacher, and I have experienced the advantages of homework. There was a time we carried out a survey on the academic performance of students who get their homework done and those who neglect it. It was found that those who get their homework done perform better than the other group. Let me say in public schools, out of 100%, you will hardly see 10% that are ready to learn and attempt their homework when given.

The reason is because they are always kept abreast of the topics being taught in school, the sense of responsibility it develop in performing tasks that related to topics taught in school gives them a long term retention of what is being taught, and they tend to never forget, which those that neglects their homework could not do. Should we blame them? They don't like and we are the one to enforce them to like it.

Moreso, it allows the teacher to be able to communicate with parents and likewise parents to give feedback to the teacher, a parents that sees his/her child busy with tasks from school when their time is needed at home will be eager to know what is taken the childs time, and with that it's a way of making parents aware of what is being taught to their children in school which gives them the opportunity to do necessities follow up on their children's academics.

So, I would say, it's very important to always give homework to students, and as such, it should not be scrapped. However, moderation can be introduced because some schools are fond of bombarding students with homework, as a result, taking their playtime away from them.

Homework is of great benefit in the development of students' responsibility, discipline, and academic performance. It reinforces what is learned in school, encourages long-term retention, and allows both teachers and parents to stay engaged in the child's educational journey. While it’s important for students to have time for play and family, the benefits of homework in shaping responsible and successful learners far outweigh any drawbacks. Therefore, homework should not be scrapped, but rather seen as an essential tool in a student's growth and education.
