Hair making and cooking skills need no Internet to triumph

Sometimes, I used to ask these questions: Why did the parents of those days refuse their children from learning a practical skill? Why do we always shun the free gift God gave us? Why do we abandon what is worth it to pursue what is not? Well, if we look at the world today, we will understand more about practical skills. The world is digital, and digital skills like programming, coding, and designing cannot be underrated, but a skill without the internet can be more reliable👌 I have two skills that can fetch me money without the online space: Hair making and cooking.

I was still a little girl when I discovered this hair-making talent or skill in me. I started my hair-making journey with a plastic doll that had no hair on its head. I single-handedly fixed the hair myself with nobody's supervision or guidance by puncturing the head with a nail and inserting the attachment into it one after the other until it was filled up with hair. Something was in me that was pushing me to do more about my skills. But you know, parents of those days did not want any distractions for their children; it was all about books and books alone 😏. Little did they know that skills have started fetching more money in today's world.

Hair making has nothing to do with the online space, so it is a practical skill that will triumph without the Internet. This is a type of practical skill or handwork that I believe would be enough to make money if, for any reason, the world were to lose the Internet, as we have seen in recent times. People engage and rely more on the Internet. The children nowadays do not want to learn a skill because some of them rely on the internet space which is gradually killing the need for practical skills.

The beautiful outcome 😍

Making hair is a unique gift God gave to me without the effort of any human. It is just so unfortunate that, in this part of the world, talents and gifts are not nurtured. As a parent, that's the area I am looking forward to exploring with my children: discovering what they have and helping them grow into a reality.

Cooking is also a practical skill that needs no Internet to breathe. Cooking is my hobby, I love to be in the kitchen exploring different meal methods, but I didn't know I could cook for a crowd until 2016 when I cooked for a birthday party, the quantity was much, I cooked for a hundred guest and at first, it felt like a dream until I did it. So tasty and yummy, and everyone was asking for my contact😏 Since then I continued cooking for people, church events, birthdays, and naming ceremonies. It is a skill that fetches cool money without a doubt.

I am planning to get better at it and to be more professional, but the nature of my present job might pose a challenge due to the time I spend at work. However, I think one of the holidays will be a good time to concentrate more on this practical skill.

This is my response to the #hivelearners weekly prompt on the topic: Practical skill

Omo, that hair looks great. I was discussing with my mom some days back and she was like she wished she enrolled me in learning something aside from school while I was young and I laughed, this is someone I begged to allow me learn a skill while i was in secondary school but she declined that it was going to be a distraction. I had to force my way out to even get the skill I have currently 😂

Sha, it's a lesson for us, thank God we know how our world is today, the place of skill is very important and it's one of the best gifts any parent can give to their children.

Our parents of those days no try at all🤔 because if I see the way my students are into one learning skill after another, I used to wonder why our parents refused this side of life🤷

It is a lesson!

It's amazing how most of our practical skills are discovered when we are children. While you discovered yours playing with dolls, I discovered mine taking apart electronic toys.

It is just so unfortunate that, in this part of the world, talents and gifts are not nurtured.

So unfortunate indeed. And it's getting worse these days. Some persons who gad skills used it to sustain themselves while in school. A practical is that important. Sadly, our parents didn't understand then, and even now unfortunately, many still don't.

It's good to see you taking the steps to correct this with your children. And that hair...it's looking beautiful. You're good at this.
