The importance of claiming your rights in the face of abuse

A few days ago, I had a conversation with a friend who had had a problem with her luggage at the airport. The company had lost her bags and was offering her compensation, which she wasn't happy with.

She spent about half an hour complaining, and I'd say venting over coffee. Finally, I asked her if she had filed a complaint or a lawsuit. I was surprised by her response. She had yelled at the poor girl at the counter and left. In short, she hadn't achieved anything.
This is precisely what companies that behave badly want. They don't want you to complain formally, but rather to talk to the poor workers who are also mistreated.
It's important that when we are harmed, we file formal complaints or civil lawsuits. For two fundamental reasons: to defend your rights and to prevent these abusive practices.
You may think it's a lot of paperwork and that the companies always win, but that's not the case. When you file a claim, the company is obligated to process it, and this comes at a cost to them, which discourages them from continuing this fraudulent behavior. Furthermore, statistically, most claims are resolved by the courts in favor of the user. In fact, if you go far enough, the company will usually offer you a much better settlement to avoid litigation.
