Wasp Nest, Greenhouse, Aphids, PDC, Stump Work, Shooting, Fire, NHL, LORA - Saturday
Was walking up to the craft studio yesterday morning with @stryeyz and we stopped to talk and I looked in front of me about 5 feet and saw this 4 inch diameter wasp nest hanging in the chokecherries. I poked at it and then cut it out to save. It looks like nothing ever hatched and it was only built... kinda like the ghost cities in China.
In the greenhouse I pulled up all the cucumber plants and 5 of the tomato plants. They went to the cart and then to the mulch pile.
There was one cucumber plant on the end that never grew tall so I put it in a pot to see if it will grow inside over winter.
PDC semi finals was on and the finals today is De Decker against Humphries which Luke is likely to win easily.
This. Time. Of. Year. Shitty blue aphids are in clouds around the farm. They exist ONLY for this 2 week stretch after the first hard freeze where they all take flight looking for ass. It is disgusting and maddening trying to walk cross the farm, they get into and on everything...
The boys and @stryeyz went to a birthday party so I had the afternoon to work. I shoveled and pick axed a bunch of the gravel away from the base of the stump then grabbed the saw to put another vertical cut in.
I realized that the sections would be too large for me to cut so I had to make another cross cut to break them down to smaller sizes.
I got a nice deep cut which makes the sections a sqft or so.
I had only sharpened one chain on purpose. If I would have had more sharp I would have kept working. As it was I was able to get a small part taken out of the stump before the chain was too dull. I was hot and sweating so I called it good.
I pulled out the .22 and threw some lead at the hillside for a bit. I have this ancient cast iron fireplace backing that I have against the tree. You can see the white spots down low where the rounds hit. Not even a dent, just the color.
Then I got clips filled for some more shooting today.
I got the fire going in the pit for the evening so I could work on burning a bunch of the stump wood. I'm getting through it pretty well but some will just get tossed over the hill as it is just rotten and wet.
The Kraken played and I was SOOO close to turning it off after they went 2 down but by a miracle they managed to claw their way back.
It took until 6:30 for my new #LORA device to arrive. It took a bit to find the right firmware that would work but it is up and going. The GPS on it seems pretty good and I now have the 3 nodes working. I am going to build a nice repeater that I can mount on the upper property to serve the whole river valley within sight. It will be the Chattaroy node and will have open public channels. My hope is to get a bunch of these build for the region and eventually get the schools to do some lessons with it.
Holy balls the Kraken DID IT! They won in OT penalty shots!
Out to soak and we were out a bit longer.
Today is going to have to be a bunch of rain prep as it is inbound later in the week and the firewood needs to be done. I should dig potatoes, haul pine needles while they are dry, move tools et al under cover, keep learning about meshtastic, watch the PDC final, and a slew of other chores.
