Surprise Chicks, Climbing Gear, Rain Storms, Concert, Creek - Monday

Got quite the surprise yesterday morning as I headed out for my chiro appointment. A hen had hatched out a dozen chicks and was milling about with them. I got this picture then headed to town.

After my chiro appointment which took longer than normal due to the number of people there and minus one employee, I went to Home Depot and picked up the pack of expansion bolts that I need for climbing anchors.

As I was heading towards home I was at the Nevada signal and got the green to head north and as I turned I saw a house being towed and was taking up the whole of both lanes. I just made it out in front of it. I knew it was going to be heading up the 2 so I hauled ass north to stay ahead of it. Then I stopped at North 40 to pickup a couple bags of chick starter and as I got back to the highway and turned to head north again I saw the house coming up the highway and was able to get in front of it. I saw it go past on the highway as I unloaded the bird feed into the coop.

So then I got the boys to help me and we managed to catch all the chicks but the hen just wouldn't. Ehh, it doesn't matter as I have the brooder hut and don't need the hen now. The eep eeps were freaked out at first but eventually they filtered out into the hut and began poking around.

I took a bit to go back through the rack and make sure I have everything. I have to figure out food stuffs today.

Again we got storms that came through. It was again ominous looking to the north and around 1pm we got a couple good sessions of rain.

It came down pretty heavily and steadily for a about 15 minutes then got lighter as it moved on past. We ended up with only .04" out of it all which it looked like we should have gotten more by how hard it rained.

The recent grad niece and the slew of musicians she is with had a concert in Fargo. She is one of nearly 400 that are going on a trip to Europe to play various places. We got to watch her group perform on a live stream.

Mid afternoon I took a wander to the creek to see how it looked since I moved the stump. I was surprised to see the water had taken all the sand and washed it away to bring it back down to the level of the hard pack rocks. There is a foot of sand on the sides that is super loose. I found out by stepping to close to the edge and my foot and shoe went straight into the water. I have a bunch of wood debris to deal with still to clear it to make it NOT catch debris this winter. This ALL is about keeping the tunnel safe, if it were to break we could lose access to the highway.

I got dinner made in the evening while we watched an older Arctic series shows. Got out to soak but for a short stint due to my skin still then went out and closed the brooder hut door to keep the heat in overnight.

Today I finish getting gear ready and get it staged for easy loading in the morning. We could get more rain today before it clears up for the weekend, I have to figure out the rest of the food I am taking, I have an appointment mid day, need to hit the store, top off gas, work around farm as there is still oodles to do, then I will come up with something for dinner this evening.
