Sunshine, Paragliding Flight 69, Pounds Of Honeycomb, Snow - Tuesday
Like the forecast said we got a sunny and lightly windy morning yesterday. About 9 am I was loaded up and on my way to the valley to go paragliding and drove out onto the Peone prairie with the band of clouds moving off to the east.
9:45 I was beginning my hike from the parking to the launch on top of Saltese.
I am SOOOOO out of shape as I was dragging ass up the trail but managed to make the mile hike in 20 minutes which is my normal time to the top. I felt like hell but my time was on point....
The wind was nice at about 8 mph from the SW so I got my wing out and got ready to launch.
I turned my video camera on on my helmet and it recorded for 1.5 minutes.... So I did not get any of my flight on video but in the end it wasn't the greatest flight so not really one that I "need" video of.
I was able to get my wing filled and set back into the wall while I waited on the right feeling wind.
My flight was a bit weird as I was going SUPER slow at for much of it and ended up flying down the gully on the lee of the rib of the hill which meant I had zero lift and was just coasting to the bottom. Near the toe of the hill I was maybe 5 feet off the ground and had to split my legs to go over a bush really close before getting a bit of buoyancy right before landing. The little buoy made it so my landing was perfectly light on my toes.
It was chilly winds and my jaw was feeling the start of the tension so I packed up my wing and called it good for the day. No need to press my luck with my pain levels.
My mid day was spent doing little as I was a bit worked from the hike and flight, more so mentally than physically. I picked the boys up from school then once home found myself up at the beehive. I opened it up to see how the frames looked and I found the mass of comb last years' brood had made. There is still a load of honey in the combs so I broke it all out and hauled it in the house.
It is POUNDS of honey and comb. The boys were munching on it all evening. I'm figuring I will be squishing the wax to get the honey out then I will lightly heat the honey to float all the remaining wax then will run through filter of some kind.
The birds are laying more now so I got potatoes in the oven to bake then we did an egg, ham, and potato dinner which was super tasty. Got out to soak as the weather moved in, but not NEARLY as bad as the forecast said.
It ended up the very low end of 1 inch of snow this morning and it is sitting right at 32F now so the snow will all be melted pretty fast today.
Another atmospheric river is pointed at us this week and it is super obvious looking at the satellite view of the system. It is pulling from the tropics and covers the entire north Pacific.
Today will likely be raining, I'll get the boys to and from school, go to my chiro appointment, Man Utd play at noon, I need to wash clothes, get dinner made early, then R has wrestling practice, and I will get the trailer setup again for a big grain haul with the bed liner for tomorrow morning first thing.

Paragliding is something everyone wants to do but some people have not been able to do it because they are afraid.
