Sleet, Greenhouse Plastic Start, Teardown, PDC Darts World Championship, Tool Shed, Rain, Wreck - Wednesday
I popped open the doppler yesterday morning as I made my tea and saw the precip over our region. I went to the deck and when I stepped out I heard the tinking of harder objects hitting the pergola roof. The tiny little ice balls were falling in the predawn temps which were above freezing around the house. That left a crust of sleet on the deck which meant for some slick conditions.
In the morning I put on an audiobook and headed to the greenhouse. I knew it wasn't likely to reach but it is still worth the effort in my opinion. The hard part is judging the correct middle point to work with.
I got it up but it was not going to reach on both sides like it was, it required a redo. More a realignment but that still didn't really fix it in the end.
I fiddled with it a bunch and got it all hung, but again the one side was not even with the ground. I'm figuring that my best bet will be to pull it down and then start on one side rather than the middle. If I start with one edge down then go to the top I think I can get it to just reach. I have no clue if this will end up doing much good but again, everything I do is an experiment.
Later in the morning it was just drizzling and I took some time to clean a few things up around the farm. I had made warming covers that the covers died on and the frames were just sitting so I pulled the arms from the posts and stacked things nicely. The metal all goes to the row cover pile and the posts went back to the wood storage.
At noon the finals of the PDC Darts World Championship came on and the match was as good as everyone hoped. Littler came out a bit slow but came on strong mid match and got a couple sets up.
But then Humphries came out of break and threw a 113 and 114 average to take back the legs then go in the lead where he stayed.
Luke Humphries put en emphatic stamp on his #1 world ranking with that amazing performance. The match went until I had to pick up the boys so thankfully I was able to watch it on my phone while I waited at the school. He won 5 minutes before they were out of school and I was able to put my phone away and go get them.
That was a pretty cool 2 weeks of darts matches and in that time both J and I have gotten markedly better at our accuracy.
It was raining all afternoon. I stood in the living room staring outside trying to work up the motivation to go out in it when I remembered that I needed to work on cleaning the tool shed. My half assed attempts at cleaning have done little to actually clean so I have to take blocks of time and try to get a more substantial amount done at a go. I spent about 45 minutes and got myself a walking path through but still have oodles to cleanup and organize.
The rain sat over our region all day long and just spun around and drizzled. We got some pretty solid down pours once in a while but for the most part it was light all day.
I got dinner made while NHL was on and threw darts a good bit. Getting much happier with my groupings as I am getting all three darts within 1" much more often. Consistency is the key and the real difficult part. Went out to soak and got just under an hour. I came inside the house and sirens went blaring south. I went in to bed and they came screaming back north and turned up the road and then stopped at the corner. I ran to the window and watched the road get shut down and emergency vehicles all over.
I got dressed and ran down the road to the neighbor's and walked across the yard to the fenceline where I could see a single car had gone off the road right in front of the other neighbor's house, about 20 feet from their vehicles sitting in front of their house.
It was a hell of a response for a single vehicle non-injury accident. 4 sheriff, 2 WSP, and 3 fire trucks. Must have been quite the light show trying to sleep.
I watched for a few minutes and could see them working around the single car with little hurry or concern. It looked rather benign in all so I ran back to the house where it took me a while to calm down and cool of enough to finally sleep.
Chances of rain today but likely not much which will give me a chance to get outside and try to get more work done. The plastic in the greenhouse needs shifting and resetting, clean in the tool shed, boys to and from school, clean around house which is a constant, make dinner, and then whatever else distracts me during the day.

You had a quite busy day but I’m glad you were able to watch darts
Also, did you soak today?
Yeah before going to view the wreck.
Now I see what you meant about the ends of the plastic. Yeah, it looks like you just need more plastic.
I have the piece I took off and can salvage some out of it that was on the north side and less sun damaged.
I think that when creating an air-gap the less room the better. I really do not know how it applies in a greenhouse/tent setting but in construction the general rule of thumb is to have a one inch gap. That said though, the insulating factor (the insulation itself) is on the interior side of the gap... so I dunno.
Yeah, I'm not positive the overall benefit of what I am doing but need to try since I have materials. Dual wall greenhouses generally are inflated with fans to create the space so I'm hoping this will act similar just without the moving air to fill the space.
Even a one to two degree difference can help so I think that you are on the right track. Something that comes to mind is how 'arctic weather' camping tents are designed and how they utilize an air-gap to retain heat.
