Go to the settings and make sure it is getting the steps from your phone sensors and not the health connect garbage. It asks every time I open the app which is highly annoying but the setting remains for my phone sensors.

That’s what I did last time, but there was a recent update and now, when I click on the settings, the app crashes.
So I uninstalled the app and reinstalled it, which meant it was no longer connected to Health. Now I get a popup every time, but at least it uses my phone’s sensors.
Yeah I get that popup too which is annoying but at least it works otherwise.
