Predawn Grain Run, Empty Barrels, PDC Lukes Finals, MY FIRST EVER DARTS 180, Clean Coop - Tuesday
My eyes opened before 4am yesterday morning but I was able to lay there for a while, at least until the clock showed it was the narcoleptic stoner hour and my body said it was time to get up. It was okay though as it got me into town nice and early before the rush of "back to work after the holiday" traffic set in. This was the view as I headed south, it cleared up though a short ways after this then it was mostly clear in town.
I had a wee bit of a barrel to pickup at the first brewery. I've not asked but it is clear the brewery is not producing near what they had been, and with a rather larger setup too... In the end it is fine as I have more than enough grain for my garden and the animals all year long.
I slid the barrel into the bed of the truck and bolted for the stacks.
The glow is always quite amazing. One thing that is wild for me is that the alleyway sits directly below the raised train tracks and I drive under them to turn into the alleyway. In the underpass is ALWAYS homeless, ALWAYS at least one. It doesn't matter how cold or how shitty or how hot. This has ALWAYS had me on guard and I keep a close eye on my surroundings. I don't expect anything, I am a farmer loading up grain and most people know not to fuck with farmers. Anyone could easily think I'm feeding the grain to pigs and REALLY not want to mess with me lest they become pig food (there are soooo many stories).
I've been seeing a bit more graffiti on the walls of the alley and with the warmer winter there are more people "sleeping rough"....
I got home by 5:30am and parked the truck until taking the boys to school. It wasn't until close to 8:30 when I got out to empty the barrels. All 4 barrels on the trailer got spread out over the main garden as I work to cover it completely over the winter. I'm closing in REALLY fast on that being done since the garlic is taking up space and the greenhouse.
The truck bed barrel got dumped to the sheep. They DO NOT need a lot as they are fat asses as it is. Seriously, I have obese sheep. My alpaca is nice and svelte but those sheep... portly is kind. Slovenly is closer but not fully encompassing.
I made it out to the greenhouse and hauled the remnants of the roll of plastic that I had covered it with last year then unrolled it to check length. I'm boned. It is pretty much the length of my beds so will not have enough length for the ends. I let it lie to think today on how to make it work.
I'm of the mind that I just clip it to the purlins on the inside for the length of it then I can use other plastic on the ends to enclose it fully. I want to make a double layered bubble of plastic over the top of the rows. I'm trying anything at this point.
HOLY SHIT what a day of darts! Luke Littler did it and he is into the finals against Luke Humphries. This is going to be outstanding today to watch this. I don't now who I want to win, I like them both.
Luke just shutdown Cross in fairly determined fashion.
HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT!!!!! I am so happy for this!!!! I got home with the boys from school and Luke Humprhies was still blowing the doors off his match and I went to my board and started throwing again. After only 5 minutes at most my aim dialed in and I got my FIRST EVER 180!!!!
OMG it felt good. The first dart went in the right side, the second right next to it, and I felt my heart skip as I focused and got the third in the bottom corner. I wasn't sure until I walked up to the board and could see the dart's lie but then jumped and shouted for joy. FINALLY!!!!! I'm getting this now and have my grip and throw dialing in.
I'd neglected the coop and cooler the past month so I slunk off to get it dealt with. In my GREAT surprise when I opened the cooler door the floor was largely dry and the bulk of the remnants of produce were BLECH. It all got dumped to the birds and animals.
I had wax boxes to fold and stack that had taken up space. I like to have a good supply for starting each year. Plus some of the best fire starter you can find.
I had a few pumpkins and squash in the Tardis that were bad so they got lobbed into the sheep pen where the animals dove head long into the mushy treats.
While I worked on dinner I threw more and I am really happy with how my groupings are getting . I getting it down to about a 1-2" circle a lot more often, which is still only 1 out of 3 or 4 attempts probably.
I'd been seeing these posted around but no one left the link where they got it. It is available at recap.hivecreators.co and it gives some pretty nifty metrics.
Got out to soak and I've built a pretty consistent routine. First post my Actifit post for the day, then a round of Broomball, a Solitaire game as fast as possible, then practice finishes in chess before going to social media apps to scroll. I'm finding the chess finishes are fun to put in the mix as it makes me have to think and not just scroll.
Today begins weather it seems as it is raining right now, looks like chance of snow now but it will warm and likely rain much the rest of the week. The temps will drop so I have to get the second layer of plastic up in the greenhouse for sure. It's Luke vs Luke today for the PDC Darts world championship and I am anxious to watch the match. @stryeyz will be working from home in the afternoons now to be able to get software implementation work done easier. It's BTC's birthday which was met by a healthy dump in the market, just keep stacking sats and it's all good.
Also a quick look over my financials spreadsheet shows that my numbers are tracking correctly so far. I have calculated for the END of today to have 23,204HP but that is what I am STARTING the day with and I am exactly on the mark for HBD savings. My out-buy of the @eds-d goes every night for .5 and I'm putting 3-5k sats in Lightning each day. My estimated HBD interest payment shows right about what my sheet does so things are tracking just right so far.

That pig farmer part and especially there are 'so many stories' had me cackling.
Are you trying to create an air-gap with the doubled up plastic? Also are you trying to do it for the full tent or just the rows?
Yeah I need a second layer of plastic inside to build a dead air space. I've only got enough plastic for just my rows so will have to piece together the ends.
Understood. Yeah it is what I call an air-gap. If you have vapor barrier tape that might help seal the ends. Also I think that there are clips that can attach to the poles, they have a stud on them that gets a cap to anchor the plastic down. It creates dimples in the plastic but should work for your scenario. I cannot quite recall where I saw them or I would include a link.
I have the clips as I use them to hold the plastic to the tubing. on the ends. I have enough to hold the plastic up inside, just enough I think.
Awesome. If you run into a dead end with it all throw up some pictures so I can see what is going on. Always willing to lend my mind to stuff.
