Potatoes, VBS Finale, PDC, Half Hour Paragliding Flight at Inkler's, Chickens, Trailer - Saturday

Woke up feeling off yesterday morning so went out and spent some time poking around the potato rows in the main garden. The plants are starting to yellow so that means soon I will be digging the rows. I ended up with 18 pounds of Red Nordland potatoes washed and dried in a crate on the deck. A bit later I poked around the potato garden and got 2 pounds of yellow spuds for a total of 20 pounds for the day and a month before I got my first spuds last year.

Mid morning I drove into town for the boys vacation bible study finale.

Both boys had a blast over the week and each night the kids made flat breads which were stockpiled for the meal that happened after which was substantial and fed a lot of people.

I headed for home to get ready for paragliding and was able to catch the second half of Barney's match where he lost to Clayton.

@stryeyz and the boys got home then a while later I headed north to Inkler's. I got to the LZ before 3pm but Kim, Cosmo, and TJ were on top parawaiting.

I sat in the shade of my truck until Megan and Brendan showed up and as I was driving us out of the LZ Kevin showed up and jumped in the back of my truck with his wing. We got to the top and ended up having to wait for an hour before the cycles mellowed enough for launches.

Brendan and I were out looking at the winds in the LZ and noticed a solid window for launching.

That kicked everyone into gear and we all went to setup.

TJ got this shot of me in the center, Cosmo in the back left, Kim on the right, and Brendan back left. Kim was setup first but ended up not going first. I got setup and in a nice wind window I was off and in the air.

I flew out along the ridge and on my passes back towards launch I kept watching for others to launch. I watched on one pass as Kim brought his wing up then it flipped and slammed into the ground on launch. Finally Cosmo got off the hill and we flew the ridge together for a while until he sunk out below launch and landed. I kept flying the ridge back and forth finding nice pockets of lift that would get me back over the top of the ridge. It was about 97F and I was quite hot and getting a bit sore in the arms so I decided I would go land.

THIS WAS TOTALLY NEW TO ME! I have never decided to land it has always been me sinking out and landing because I have to.

The lift was so nice and smooth as I came in to land that I had to do a bunch of S turns to lose the altitude. My landing was PERFECT in the circle with a nice tiptoe soft landing and a perfect kill of my wing. This was my second longest flight ever. Oh and my piece of shit camera didn't record a single thing, I am so annoyed with it.

So after I landed almost everyone else got a flight in except Kevin who was still on top. Megan landed across the road in the field so Cosmo and Chris who showed up and went to pick her up. They picked up TJ and headed for the top. I talked Brendan into driving up so I could get my truck and a bunch got second flights and a couple first flights. This was Kevin in back and TJ in the fore.

I watched them launch and sink out pretty quickly so I jumped in my truck and headed for home.

@stryeyz had dinner ready not long after I got home and after eating I remembered I had to hook up the trailer for the grain run I have done this morning. I had to seriously laugh at the teen chicks and their chosen place of perching. At least they have a good view?

The trailer was parked and ready.

Headed out to soak but I barely got half an hour in as my skin was borked.

I have been to town for a large load of grain and I emptied it into the sheep pen already since it will be hot today. I was sweating like mad just loading it thanks to the heat the grain still held and then again once unloading it. I have to pick in the gardens today, pull weeds, mow, darts is on, then I will hopefully grill tonight for dinner.

Wow! What a busy day! I love the teenage chickens perched there. Ha! What fun to have a group of people to go paragliding with! And the readings for your flight are really cool too! Sounds pretty warm!!

It's nice we have enough people in our club that almost any day the winds are conducive there is someone to fly with.
