Mowing Jimmy's Launch, Paragliding Flight 82, Worms, Bees, Fire, Cabbage, Grilling, Tooth - Wednesday
Got the boys to school yesterday morning then was able to watch the NASA launch finally make it to space before I had to leave to head back up north to fly and get some work done.
We met at Inkler's then headed for the LZ of Parker. This was a bailout but it is now the main until the fields are cut. The launch is on the hill straight in the middle of the pic.
After checking out the lz we drove to the launch where the winds were just starting to pick up nicely. After a while of listening to Steve talk I tossed people's gear out of my truck and busted ass up to the top launch that needed to be mowed.
I started right where I parked in the actual parking area and got it cleared as fast as I could. Soon Steve and Chris were pulling in and I had just gotten the spots cleared so I could back into the one.
Then I went to the actual launch area and mowed it all to open it up nicely. It is an actual cliff launch with a good 60 foot cliff.
The worst part was the damn trail to get down to the launch is SUPER steep especially with the mower.
I called it good on the launch as it was getting later so I tossed the mower in the truck and began driving back down. I stopped about every few hundred feet and ran the mower along the side of the road as Steve and Chris had cut the middle. I did this a few times until I got to the drop down to the y. I then headed back to the pioneer launch to fly.
I parked and grabbed my wing and harness and headed to the launch. As I did Alicia took off. She ended up sinking hard at hte start but then near the lz she caught a nice bit of thermal and was able to stay in the air a while.
I launched in one of the next cycles and as I did I shot straight up but my dumb ass didn't pay attention well enough as I SHOULD HAVE turned and stayed in the lift RIGHT OVER LAUNCH.... Did I do that, of course not. I flew out of the amazing lift into shitty air... The flight was still good and I learned from it. I did tweak my right knee a bit on the landing as it was a bit harder. I needed to get a patch on it for the night to hopefully make it easier to go fly again today while the winds are conducive.
This was the landing and that is Sam and Alicia walking down from the upper lz.
We got a ride back up to the launch where I was able to hang out for a bit with the club before taking off and heading for home.
Over on the hill I could totally see 2 bright white spots that were hang gliders setup on the lunch from hwy 395 on the passing lanes.
I managed about half the drive with little traffic which is a semi miracle for this road.
I got home 20 minutes before I had to go pickup the boys at school but made it with time to spare. Once home again I was able to get out into the garden and when I looked at the gooseberries I noticed they had been devoured by worms.
Whatever these caterpillars are are needing to die with great prejudice.
The bees are doing great though and were all on fast forward in the nice warm sunny afternoon.
I got a fire going in the pit for the evening.
Then harvested the first 2 heads of cabbage from the garden.
Having tweaked my knee I put on a knee brace and stuffed a large glass marble in it to act as a pressure point. It really helped a good bit for the evening but didn't fix anything. I ended up putting a pain patch over it and wrapping it for the night.
The cabbage cooked on the Blackstone while I grilled the tenderloin steaks on the grill.
We got out to the tub a bit earlier than normal and I only managed half an hour due to my skin fritzing thanks to the insane grasses I had been mucking about in most of the day.
R came out and like the hard core person he is and yanked his tooth out. He has no problem plucking them out when loose.
Today I am going back up to Inkler's and will hopefully get a flight or two in there or at Parker's before I have to be back to pick the boys up this afternoon. I'll get the trailer ready for a grain run tomorrow, I have to cut more grass around the farm, pull more weeds, then come up with something for dinner.
