Harvests, Building Ramps, Damselfly On The Trailer, I Made Some Miscalculations, Grilling - Sunday

Yesterday morning woke to rain then after ManUtd managed to finally eek out a win I was out in the greenhouse picking the cucumbers and hoping beyond hope that I would have enough for today. I managed 29 which means I still need another 13 this morning before I have to go deliver them to the co-op.

Then into the squash I went which is now on the downward slide to being pulled. There was 13.5 pounds ready for me but a number of the plants are getting powdery mildew and are losing the battle. I have sold very little squash this year so I am quite happy to have only grown the 2 rows.

Only a few steps left now before I can get my Damselfly to the runway for test flights. I spent an hour building the ramps out of 2x4s to load the plane on my trailer.

I used 4 furring strip pieces to hold the 2x4s together then used old plates from the trailer leaf springs as the piece that sits on the pipe bracket I made.

The first one sat nice on the trailer so I went to make the second one.

It did not take long and I had it together.

Both ramps are more than long enough now so that when the main landing wheels are on the ramps the nose wheel will clear the back of the trailer easily.

The engine has K&N filters on it and I remembered that I had a cleaning kit from my old Toyota that has not run in well over a decade. The kit is still good though so I will be doing a good cleaning and oiling of the filters in the next day or two.

Watched the Seahawks manage a win mid day then headed back out to the hangar.

It took me far too long to find them but the pieces that I cut off the pipe insulation that is on the yoke worked perfect as guards for the wing edges when I tilt the plane back.

It was time for me to try loading it on the trailer and it ll went swimmingly until it was on the trailer.

That was when I realized I had made a couple miscalculations. First is the bracket that holds the wheels is WAY too wide.

IMG_20230924_161811.jpg

You can see how far the tires sit in the bracket. This makes it nearly impossible for me to get the plane off the trailer. The second miscalculation is the ramps and the metal piece that sits on the bracket. The wood sits really high the way I have them now and so I need to move the metal piece farther off the end and use only two lag bolts per. Today I will work on fixing my mistakes which thankfully are not super involved.

I got a fire going in the pit for the evening which was nice to have the warm fire as the evening got cooler.

I had meant to do it earlier in the day but I managed to get the tomatoes and peppers picked. Over 10 pounds of tomatoes and 3 pounds of a variety of peppers.

I grilled our beefallo burgers for dinner while throwing a few rounds of washers.

I found the FAA has an advisory circular "Amateur-built Aircraft & Ultralight Flight Testing Handbook" which has a TON of very pertinent info for me and I am digging through it for any and all pointers as I near first tests.

Today I have to deliver the cucumbers to the co-op but only after I pick the balance. I will be stopping at Harbor Freight to buy a work light setup as I need the stand they are mounted to to hold the wings up while assembling. I am going to submit my order for parts which will get a big supply of aircraft bolts, the coating for the wing repair, an air band radio, and eventually a choke kit for the carbs so I will have a choke lever in the cockpit with all the other controls.

Looking at the first photo, I was wondering what it is in the bowl because it looks a little bit tiny until I read where you said it was cucumber, they look tinier than the usual ones I used to see. You really had your day filled with crops activities

I had to pick pretty far down in size to make up the numbers I needed for the order I had. I had hoped they would grow a bit more but the cloudy and cool weather we have been having has slowed them down a bit.

I guess you are so happy about Manchester United's win because this is the second time you are talking about it...lol

It's quite surprising given how poorly they have played recently.
