While making this bracelet, I was reflecting on many things in life, and that's how what I want to share with you came about. I had originally thought of making a bracelet with a compass symbol, but as I was making the first cuts, I began to think in terms of personal and spiritual well-being, and the Hebrew word "Shalom" came to mind. This idea is very beautiful and profound, and that is how it took shape in the creation I show below. The word Shalom means peace, but in a spiritual sense it means reconciling opposite poles, not only in warlike terms. It speaks of reconciling matter with the spirit, the mind with the body, the soul with divinity. I was very surprised that this word has its roots in Hebrew with the idea of ​​​​"perfect and complete," so we are talking about a peace that has nothing to do with the Western idea. Well, without further ado, I will briefly share my experience with you. I hope you like it.

Hola queridos amigos de Hive Diy, espero que se encuentren muy bien y que hayan tenido un lindo día de sábado. Hoy estuve trabajando en algo, pero más que trabajar, estuve reflexionando a través de las manos, porque mientras hacía esta pulsera reflexionaba acerca de muchas cosas de la vida y es así como salió lo que quiero compartir con ustedes. Había pensado originalmente hacer una pulsera que tuviera el símbolo de una brújula, pero mientras hacía los primeros cortes comencé a pensar en términos de bienestar personal y espiritual y se me vino a la mente el concepto hebreo de la palabra "Shalom". Dicha idea es muy hermosa y profunda, es así como tomó forma en la creación que muestro a continuación, la palabra Shalom significa paz, pero en un sentido espiritual significa reconciliar los polos opuestos, no solo en términos bélicos, se habla de reconciliar la materia con el espíritu, la mente con el cuerpo, el alma con la divinidad, me asombré mucho que esta palabra tiene su raíz en hebreo con la idea de lo "perfecto y completo" así que hablamos de una paz que nada tiene que ver con la idea occidental. Bueno, sin más nada que decir les comparto brevemente mi experiencia, espero les guste.

I had a piece of wood sitting around for a while, so sometimes things don't just happen by chance, but rather with a purpose. This piece of wood measures 3 centimeters long by 1 centimeter wide, perfect for writing some letters on top. Since it will be a bracelet, I wanted to give the piece a slightly curved shape, so I cut it at both ends.

Tenía una pieza de madera guardada desde hace tiempo, así que las cosas a veces no salen por simple azar sino que tenía un próposito, esta pieza de madera mide 3 centímetros de largo por 1 centímetro de ancho, perfecto para escribir algunas letras encimas de ella. Como será una pulsera quise drle una forma algo curva a la pieza así que la corte por ambos extremos.

After shaping the wood with the knife, I began sanding it to polish the piece and leave a uniform surface. Then, with a pencil, I began to write the Aramaic letters that form the word Shalom. Like most Semitic languages, it is written from right to left; there are only consonants, no vowels. Only the Hebrew letters that form the word Shalom, which are Shin, Lamed, Vav, and Mem, are used.

Después de hacerle dado forma a la madera con la navaja comencé a lijarla para pulir la pieza y quedara con la superficie uniforme. Después con un lápiz comencé a escribir las letras arameas que forman la palabra Shalom, como la mayoría de las lenguas semíticas se escribre de derecha a izquiera solo existen consonantes, nada de vocales. Solamente las letras hebreas con las que se forma la palabras Shalom, las cuales son Shin, Lamed, Vav y Mem

Once the letters are written, I begin carving them one by one. To do this, I use one of the knives with a triangular tip. Using the sharpened tip, I first cut the pencil line. Then, I slowly pull the wood out. It's important not to push the knife too deep, but rather to go little by little. After the first cut, I can retrace the line with the tip of the knife and then pull it out. This way, I can achieve an acceptable depth for each letter.

Una vez escritas las letras comienzo a tallar una por una, para eso utilizo una de las cuchillas que tiene la punta en forma de triángulo, con la punta afilada priemro se corta el trazo dibujado con lápiz. Seguidamente, luego se va sacando poco a poco la madera, es importante no hundir mucho la navaja, sino ir poco a poco, luego del primer corte se puede hacer otra vez el trazo con la punta de la navaja y luego extraer. De esa manera se puede alcanzar una profundidad aceptable en cada letra.

Little by little, I'm applying the same carving process to each drawn letter. The letter that gave me the most work was shin, the one at the beginning on the right. Interestingly, this letter originates from the Proto-Sinaitic alphabet, which the Phoenicians later adapted and improved. In its pictographic meaning, "Shin" has the symbol of tearing teeth, since the idea they had in mind was a lion tearing to pieces. It's incredible how this pictogram is part of the word Shalom. It symbolizes that we must reconcile within ourselves our most terrible thoughts, which tear at our soul like a lion through the skin of a soft lamb.

Poco a poco voy aplicando en cada letra dibujada el mismo proceso para tallar. La letra que más trabajo me dio fue shin, la que esta al inicio a la derecha. Es curioso que esta letra tiene su origen en el alfabeto proto-sinaítico que luego los fenicios adaptaron y mejoraron, en su significado pictográfico "Shin" tiene el símbolo de dientes rasgando, pues la idea que tenían en mente era el león despedazando, es increíble como este pictograma forma parte de la palabra Shalom, eso símboliza que debemos reconciliar en nuestro ser nuestros pensamientos más terribles, que desgarran nuestra alma como un león la piel de un suave cordero.

I made two holes at the ends of the already carved and polished piece, since I'll be putting the thread for the bracelet through there. As for the thread, I'm using Chinese thread; I wasn't aware of this material. For the bracelet, I'll make knots divided by wooden beads of the same color as the piece. To do this, I use a small hollow rod I made out of aluminum. I wrap it around it six times. Then, I thread the end of the thread through. Then, I slowly pull out the aluminum tube and press it through to make a strong knot.

A la pieza ya tallada y pulida le hice dos agujeros por los extremos, ya que por ahí voy a poner el hilo para el brazalete, en cuanto al hilo utilizo uno chino, desconocía la existencia de este material. Para el brazalete haré unos nudos que estaran divididos por cuentas de madera del mismo color de la pieza. Así que para hacerlo utilizo una pequeña vara hueca que hice de aluminio, sobre ella le doy 6 vueltas, luego por dentro paso el extremo del hilo, luego voy sacando el tubo de aluminio poco a poco y luego presiono para que el nudo quede fuerte.

After tying the first knot, I look for the beads I'll use. As you can see, they're the same color as the carved wooden piece, which, along with the black thread, makes a perfect match. I place them one by one, four wooden beads on each side. Finally, I tie a knot that allows the bracelet to be opened and closed. These beads are secured with black eyelets. It's finished.

Luego de hacer el primer nudo busco las cuentas que utilizaré, como pueden ver tiene el mismo tono d ela pieza de madera tallada que junto al color negro del hilo hacen una combinación perfecta. Una a una la voy colocando, 4 cuentas de mader apor cada lado, al final hago un nudo que permita abrir y cerrar la pulsera, que estan aseguradas con unas esperas negras. Así ha quedado terminado.

Ancient Hebrew wisdom teaches us that rather than merely aspiring to a fleeting moment of "peace" or the "absence of problems" (which the world can offer), the spiritual application of Shalom invites us to actively work for the integrity of our soul. I believe it's a very comprehensive idea; the more I research it, the more I discover and am amazed. Both the Far and Near East have a worldview that we do well to learn and adapt to our needs and experiences. The West, always rational, excludes the possibility of nourishing the spirit and soul, but we can learn how to do so if we look with different eyes.
