The key to my....

Sunday came and went and I finished Saturday's post-market clean, tidy and put-away, locked up the "deli" and - literally - thought nothing of it.

Until Tuesday, around lunch time and when I needed something.

The keys were gone!

Not in their usual place. Not in any unusual place. Yes, I looked everywhere: turfed cushions off sofas and chairs, emptied my knitting and wool baskets - TWICE, emptied the fridge and emptied drawers. Umpteen times.

Niks.

Nada.

Nothing. They were nowhere to be found.

Had I locked them inside, I wondered. I checked. Two ways. On the security camera, and there I am, around 2pm on Sunday, locking up. And, because another key fits the padlock, I unlocked the padlock and tried the door.

Locked.

Stymied.

When I delivered pita breads to my dear friend and his partner, on Wednesday, he suggested that I say a prayer to his eponymous saint, and by the time I left, he was convinced his - my - prayer had been answered and told me where to "find" them.

Nope. Not there.

Then, the following day, my friend, R, who's looking after another dear old lady (ha!), and to whom I'd promised something (from said shed), also helped me look. In the garage. In the car.

Again...

Nothing.

Then Builder B, due to work on the reno arrived and jimmied the door open, restoring a modicum of sanity and the day proceeded as normal; with arrangements to acquire a new lock.

Come Friday - today

I go to hang out the washing, and as I lift the peg bag, I hear a familiar rattle.

And sure as God made little green apples, and there, in the most silly, peculiar place imaginable, were the keys.

In the peg bag!

Until next time

I can't carry the keys around with me, I'd rattle like a jailer 🤭 Anyway, all's well that ends well.

Keys lost, don't remind me a trick the husband did regularly, literally upturn the house. Once found in the deep freeze of all places, yup lesson learned never put keys anywhere they must have the same place at all times, especially as one gets older...
